Author don'ts…

Grrrr…. okay, earlier in the week, some websites had rubbed me (and my retinas) the wrong way.  Now it’s authors.

Or rather….one particular author, whom I’m not naming.

With this in mind, here’s the Don’t tip.  Trust me, a lot of authors are going to feel the same way I do.

Authors:

don’t spam me!

I get enough junk mail in general.  I get a lot of promo related type of emails, just being in this business.  But one thing I absolutely hate and abhor is when a fellow author mass emails me, and ten dozen other authors, about some promo mess.

Now this isn’t the same thing as a friend who comes up with an idea that might be a clever way to get the word out.  This isn’t about some friends coming up with an idea for a mad blog tour and sending out emails to see who is interested.

This is a totally different beast.

It’s a generic email…Hi…I just thought I’d shared this mag new way to help promote your books… and it gets sent to several of my email addies, along with a number of other authors.

Please. Just. Don’t.  It’s a waste of time, and more…it’s a pretty certain way to guarantee I’m not gonna pick up your book.  Isn’t there like some unwritten courtesy rule about not spamming your associates or something????  If not, there oughta be.
