Escape from the relationship I'm in?????

Was over at Alison Kent’s blog and saw this…

“From what I understand, (Harlequin) readers are women who want to escape from the relationship that they’re in,” said auditioner Carlos Troccoli, 30, who was tall, sturdy and muscular. “I can bring that to them.”

Ummmmm…. excuse me?

The last fricking thing I wanna do is escape the relationship I’m in. Why would I wanna do that? I’m married to a great guy, we have a great marriage, and we have three wonderful, beautiful kids (yes, they are completely and utterly beautiful). I mentioned it before but it’s worth saying again. If I could have my husband or my pick of any romance novel hero come to life, I’m taking my husband.

This line strikes me as sort of insulting to romance readers. Makes it sound like all of us are unhappy in our relationships and these smutty romances are the only way we can deal.

Sorry, pal…. I didn’t see a pic of you, but I hope you faired better in the looks department than the common sense department.

People read for entertainment. Yeah. it’s temporary reprieve from reality…for me, my reality is deadlines, yelling kids, the DH rolling his eyes cuz I’m reading another romance, the laundry, the dishes in the dishwaster and the arguing kids who now require a bath. But it’s also for entertainment. I mean, why do you go to a movie? If my husband goes and sees a movie with Angelina Jolie in it, does that mean I think he’s wanting to escape our marriage?

Uh… no. I think he wants to see a movie.

I certainly hope this arrogant guy isn’t a winner in the search for “real men” cover models.
