So long to a series…

So I have sad news.  Berkley isn’t buying any more Hunter books.  At this point, it looks like Hunter’s Rise will be the final book.

Sales have been dropping off and when that happens, publishers just aren’t too keen to keep on buying.  Writers love words but numbers often dictate how do things and this is one of those instances.  Numbers made the call here and mine have just sucked lately.  When the sales aren’t there, things like this happen.

It kind of sucks because I had a really cool idea to reboot things and flip it on it’s head.

Now I don’t know what I’ll do with it.  Before people rush to offer suggestions, please keep in mind I’m familiar with them…I’m not ruling out the idea of going digital with it again, but this series reboot would be pretty complex and longer, more complex ideas aren’t always the easiest things to do with my epubs.  Self publishing it isn’t ideal because it’s a lot of hard work and there’s very little guarantee of making much money.

I also have to work in whatever I do around the projects I plan to fill my plate with and longer projects aren’t always doable.  This would be a longer project.

I very much appreciate all the readers who’ve supported the series over the years.  If at any point I can continue with it, I’ll be sure to update the news here at my site.

In the meantime, if you can send it off with a bang, I’d very much appreciate it.

As with most of my Hunter books, this one works wonderfully as a standalone and it won’t matter if you haven’t read the other books in the series.  You can read an excerpt here or you can preorder at any of the links below.

  1. Sorry for your loss. They say when one door closes another one opens, maybe this is one of those times 🙂 Stay positive & true fans will follow you ALWAYS! You have so many great stories out there..things will get better. a fan in VA

  2. That sucks! I’ve already preordered Hunter’s Rise and I can’t wait to read it.

  3. That’s so sad 🙁
I’m going to miss those Hunters, but hopefully you will be able to bring that new idea to life at some point!

  4. THIS SUCKS!!! I will be sad to see the series go they were all great books and loved every1!!! U keep writing Shiloh and i’ll keep buying!!! I already have mine preordered at B & N!!! God bless u and urs Shiloh!!

  5. Thanks for the support, guys. 🙂

Unfortunately, Jane…when the series just isn’t selling, there’s not much they can do. The sales have been dropping off steadily and while there have been loyal readers, it’s not enough to keep it alive.

  6. I’m so sorry! The Hunters are what brought me to you, and they’ve remained my favorite of your series. I’ve got my preorder in, and will definitely be standing in line if you decide to try another way to keep things going.

  7. I’m sorry to hear it. I can’t imagine your disappointment. I hope you are able to reboot it.

  8. No that can’t be, I love the Hunter series and have them; I don’t even give them away since one of the series I don’t mind re-reading!!!

  9. So sorry to hear that, Shiloh. I love the Hunters books. It’s unfortunate the latter sales haven’t been quite enough for the publisher. Is there any chance that this one might change their minds? It’s such a fun world.

Either way, you know we’ll all be coming back for more of your books — Hunters or otherwise.

  10. @Chelsea, not likely. It doesn’t like preorders or anything are going to be stellar. I can always hope & pray for a miracle, but I’m a realist.

  11. sorry to hear about the hunters series.i love reading the books.could u think about going back to ebooks with this series? i sure hope so.

  12. @Meg… I discussed this in the post. It’s a vague possibility, but just a vague one at this point and not one that I could focus any time soon. These stories are a lot longer and my ebooks tend to work better if I can work them in around my longer projects when NY. There’s only so much time in the day and my plate’s already pretty full.

  13. So sad to see the Hunters go but I’m happy to hear that your plate is so full with other projects! Waiting for Hunters Rise to come out so I can put the entire series on my re-read list. Thank you Shiloh for writing such amazing books. Looking forward to some future amazing reads!!!

  14. Sorry to hear that but i guess that how it is….and hey you’re not the first person to whom such thing happened 🙂

  15. Hi, Shiloh:
I’m so sorry to hear about this. I love the Hunters (I just pre-ordered Hunter’s Rise on B & N). This was the first of your series that I fell in love with and last year, it was so great to buy most of the series at one time in order to catch up. Is there any chance that another publisher might be interested and pick it up? It seems like such a shame to end when you have nmore stories to tell :(…
Luckily, I still have many of your books to read and will remain a loyal fan!
    Best Wishes,
    MJB

  16. I talked it over with my agent, MJB… she’s not one to sugarcoat things and she didn’t seem very optimistic. If one was to come knocking at my door, I wouldn’t say no, but I’m not exactly anticipating it.

  17. I’m really sorry to hear that the “Hunters” are coming to an end. Like most everyone here they were the very first books I read of yours and have been a BIG fan of them ever since.. Have both the ebooks and paperbacks with the ebooks being some of the first ebooks I ever bought.

Yes, please keep us posted if anything comes up with more stories from the “Hunters”..
Thanks for all the GREAT reads over the years..

    Linda

  18. Darn! I first started reading you off of Ellora’s Cave and fell in love. This series is right up there for me along with Lora Leigh’s Breeds. Some of my favorites. Hopefully, this isn’t the end just a short hiatus while someone else picks it up. I’ll continue to read your other stuff, cause you’re just that good 🙂
