Knocking NaNo

So November is over, and that means so is NaNo.  National Novel Writing Month.

I didn’t participate.  I never have.  I like Sven and the 70 Days of Sweat better.

But even though I’ve never participated, I’ve seen more than enough sly little insults or outright trash that some people like to do when they see the words NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH.

What I’m trying to figure out is why?

If somebody wants to spend a month trying to write a book, hey, more power to them.  If they decide after they write that book that they want to try and get it published?  Hey, more power to them.  People will learn soon enough that writing doesn’t always equal publication but I’d bet some people aren’t writing to get published.  They are writing to see if they can write a book.  So…more power to them.

So I’m confused when I see people knocking NaNo.  Can anybody clue me in?
