Do you make resolutions?

Do you make resolutions for the new year?  I don’t.  This doesn’t mean I don’t make resolutions…I do it, I just figure if I’m going to make a change, I’m doing it when I decide I’m making the change.  If I procrastinate on a change?  I won’t make the change come the new year.  I’m doing it then or it’s not happening.

Like facebook.  I was fed up and tired with the timesuck so I deleted the 2800+ friends and moved the author page.  Same with goodreads.  Removed all friend connections.  Decided I’m spending too much time with the biz of being a writer instead of being a writer.  Didn’t see the point in waiting until 2011 to make that change.  Started it when I saw the problem.

Back in November 2009, there was another problem-one that had been creeping up on me for me years-to the problem of oh… 80+ pounds.  I wasn’t waiting until January 2010 to do anything because I finally had the resolve to make the change then and I’m down 60 pounds.

The problem with me and resolutions, if I’m determined I’m going to do something?  The way I procrastinate, I don’t see resolutions as goals or deadlines the way some people do, I guess.  It’s just another thing to put off.

So I make resolutions, but it’s not a New Years thing.  It’s an immediate thing.  If I’m going to make a change-it’s a now thing.  And generally, those are the changes that have had the biggest impact on my life (and my sanity).

  1. I try not to since somehow they are not kept. My only thing for this year is to take more time for me and not to take on so much projects like always.
    Happy New Year…

  2. Shi–Congratulations on dropping the 60 pounds. That is a real accomplishment.
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions either. When I was diagnosed to be a diabetic, I changed my diet, got some more exercise, and lost weight. I hope you lose those last 20 pounds.

  3. I agree, I don’t wait to make a resolution, if I’m ready to do something, i.e.: Weight Watchers I get going on it right away. I can be a terrible procrastinator and at times it takes little to distract me. I’m capable of meeting deadlines at work-but at home I like to drift from thing to thing:-)
