13 Things about the Month of May

Time for the Thursday Thirteen!

Yeah, I’m running late.  Before I quit the day job to write, I worked as a pediatric nurse and occassionally, they miss me and make me go work.  This was one of those weeks~filling in for a friend.  So I’ve gotten very little accomplished….

  1. Today is National Day of Prayer.  I pray fairly regularly, saying thanks, asking for patience, asking for the willpower to keep my mouth shut when I really, really want to say something but it’s probably not the best thing to say… God has blessed me and I try to remember to always say thanks for those blessings.  I pray for patience because I’m a mom… and moms need patience.  Lots of it.  I pray about a lot of things but patience, saying thanks, and willpower usually top the list.

  2. The Kentucky Derby…on the first Saturday in May…blah blah blah blah…a bunch of horses race around a track, lasts about two minutes and the area I live in practically comes to a standstill.  Where do I live?  In the general area of Louisville, Ky.  Do you all know there’s actually a song about the Derby? Can you tell I’m not overly impressed with the Derby?

  3. May 25, my older brother’s birthday.  I wouldn’t have met my husband if it wasn’t for my older brother.  Happy Birthday!  (he’s going to be a daddy in August!)

  4. There’s a faerie fest in Milford, Ohio…I have the flyer on it from a Celtic Festival I went to in Cincy, but I can’t find a website on this anywhere!

  5. Then there’s the Tennessee Ren Faire.  I like ren faires…only been to a couple, but I do like them a lot.  I don’t dress up though~I’m looking for Celtic stuff and faerie stuff.  Not going so I can wear a corset…egads, no thanks!

  6. In two weeks, my son goes on his second field trip.  His preschool has the same field…every year…to the same place…every year.  A dairy farm.  He loves it, the other kids love it and they do give you fresh, homemade ice cream.  Can’t beat fresh, homemade ice cream.

  7. School lets out before Memorial Day for us…considering they made the kids go back to school the first week of August, they better let them out early this year.  Kids spend enough time in school already.  Another ten years?  Summer break will be obsolete and it’s kind of sad.  They have so little time to be a kid anyway.  However, come mid July, I’m sure I’ll be praying for August.

  8. On May 29, two years ago, I lost a child…one year later, I was given another.

  9. May 28 is Memorial Day.  Memorial Day was first celebrated after the Civil War to honor the fallen Union soldiers. It wasn’t until after World War I that the holiday was used to honor all fallen US soldiers.

  10. Coming up on May 11, the bratlet and I shall be testing for our next belt in Taekwondo.

  11. I have two releases in May.  One is already out…Always Yours from Samhain.  The other comes out next week, One Night with You, from Ellora’s Cave.

  12. At some point this month, I have cool news that I’ll get to share…and nope, I’m not giving any hints or clues.

  13. It means SUMMER!  Long days, warm nights…I get the boot the kids into the backyard and lay on the hammock to read.
