My head ached and I wanted a drink. I wanted it so bad, I could taste the burn of whiskey going down my throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But when I took a step toward the end of the alley, the leanly built man with a face that was almost painfully handsome stepped into my path. \u201cAfter all that, you\u2019re just going to walk away?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n I went still, tightening my hand on the strap of my knapsack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNone of it concerns me so why shouldn\u2019t I walk away?\u201d I said and my voice was so calm, I wanted to pat myself on the back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He folded his arms over his chest and leaned forward a bit, a charming grin crooking the corner of his lips. \u201cOh, so you\u2019re going to pretend you didn\u2019t see my mate\u2019s wings or feel any of that crazy mojo in the air?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n My breath caught in my chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFinn,\u201d the bigger man said, sounding a bit amused and a bit annoyed. \u201cYou\u2019re going to scare the poor woman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAm I?\u201d He scraped short, neatly clipped nails along his cheek, the stubble making a rasping sound that made me want to shiver. \u201cAm I scaring you, pet?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019m not your pet<\/em>,\u201d I said, narrowing my eyes. Even if I did like how it sounded in that sexy-as-sin accent of his. Irish\u2026Irish spoken in a deep rumble that was like velvet over my skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cToo bad.\u201d His eyes darkened and his voice deepened. \u201cYou\u2019d be a delicious thing to pet\u2026warm, soft\u2026female.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Liquid heat rushed to gather between my thighs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His lids drooped and his lips parted. \u201cOh, now that\u2019s just daring me, darlin\u2019. Swallowing it, I took a wobbling step backward, but my knees tried to melt and I wavered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The other man was there in a blink, catching my elbow. He reached out and shoved the one he\u2019d called Finn hard on the shoulder. \u201cTone it down, you arse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tone what down?<\/p>\n\n\n\n I had no idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My bones felt all loose and limp, like they were made of taffy and I wanted to sink into the man in front of me. But the other man\u2014Sebastian\u2014his name was Sebastian\u2014took my arm. \u201cYou look flushed, ma\u2019am.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n It came out as mum<\/em> and he offered a dazzling smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMaybe you need a drink. The sun\u2019s warmer today than we expected. Have you eaten anything?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2026um\u2026no?\u201d I couldn\u2019t remember. Surely, I had. Skipping meals was ill-advised because it made other appetites harder to control. Maybe that\u2019s all it was. I should sit down and eat something\u2026then I\u2019d feel better. Less like I needed to let the one with eyes like dark velvet do whatever he wanted\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n No<\/em>. My body might want to melt, but he wasn\u2019t thinking anything like that<\/em>, my mind insisted. Not about me<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThen come inside my pub. I\u2019ll get you a drink and you can have a snack. On the house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2026\u201d Shaking my head, I looked back over my shoulder. \u201cNo, that\u2019s not necessary. I was going to try\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI insist.\u201d He smiled again and it was warm and inviting. Impossible to deny, really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My stomach grumbled then and my knees did another dip and wobble. Okay, food would probably be smart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * * * * *<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ten minutes later, my head was clearer but I still couldn\u2019t quite recall exactly how I came to be in the pub. Sebastian had offered an arm and then it was like\u2026poof<\/em>. Magic. We were inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, sitting in a small bar, I sipped from a glass of ginger ale, waiting for the sugar to hit. I was munching on tortilla chips with some of the best spinach dip I\u2019d ever had as well. Sebastian kept disappearing through a small door, returning after just a minute or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before I finished the ginger ale, he was back with a plate of cheese, fruit and crackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2026\u201d My mouth watered at the sight of the strawberries but I\u2019d seen some of the prices around here. This place wasn\u2019t in my budget. I wasn\u2019t hurting for money, but if I wasn\u2019t careful, that wouldn\u2019t last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cShare it with me,\u201d he said, a charming smile on his face. \u201cPerk of being the owner. I can eat whatever I want\u2014and share it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n I slanted a look at him, suspected I was being maneuvered but damn, I was<\/em> hungry. He took one of the berries and bit into it while I debated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finn strolled over and leaned against the bar, selected another. \u201cYou should have used more strawberries, luv,\u201d he said. \u201cI could eat every last one\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n I grabbed the largest one on the plate and bit into it without even realizing I\u2019d done it. A husky wolf\u2019s rumble of amusement echoed in my mind and I swallowed a curse, realizing that greedy grab hadn\u2019t entirely been me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMaybe I should<\/em> get more strawberries,\u201d Sebastian said with a chuckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was definitely being maneuvered. But it was just food\u2026right? What was the harm in letting a couple of attractive men give me some food? Even if one of them was a \u2026seriously, a faerie<\/em>? I couldn\u2019t remember any of the stories I\u2019d read as a kid about the fae and food but my wolf would warn me, wouldn\u2019t she?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Slowly selecting a piece of cheese, I let the wolf creep closer and she peered out through my eyes, taking in everything I saw, smelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She breathed in and liked what she scented in the air\u2014and it wasn\u2019t the food that appealed. Nice,<\/em> she murmured. Strong<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An image formed of male hands running over our flesh\u2014two sets of hands, both sensual and strong as they touched us, stroking our breasts and thighs, tangling in our hair and spreading our legs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I shoved her back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop<\/em>, I ordered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mate\u2026they want to mate with you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I grabbed my ginger ale and drank, wishing it was something stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As I lowered the glass, another was put in front of me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIrish whiskey,\u201d Finn said, voice husky and thick. \u201cI think you\u2019ll like it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n My hand shook as I took it, sipped. It was smoke and fire as it slid down my throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI should go,\u201d I said, moving to slide off the high-backed bar stool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sebastian lifted his heel and planted it on the rung of my seat\u2014if I slid forward anymore, I\u2019d be riding his hard, massive thigh. It wasn\u2019t an unappealing picture, either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDo you want to?\u201d he murmured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I couldn\u2019t look at him. I was wet between my legs and aching, so aroused I could smell it. If these two were anything like me\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n A low groan came from across the bar, followed by a rough curse and I jerked my gaze up. Finn was staring at my mouth.
