BAD<\/span> Reviews<\/h2>\n

Here\u2019s the deal.<\/p>\n

You will get them.\u00a0 They are a fact of life.\u00a0 It is impossible to please everybody and if you expect to never get a bad review, in effect, what you are expecting is to please everybody.<\/p>\n

Now I realize this is probably a little easier for me to say than some\u2014I\u2019m one of those people who have gone through life fully aware of the fact that I can rub a lot of people the wrong way and while I\u2019m sorry about that, I\u2019ve never changed how I am to suit anybody else and I have no intention of changing that now\u2026and that includes all aspects of my writing.<\/p>\n

Bad reviews can suck and there\u2019s no denying that.\u00a0 I do have that knee jerk reaction and yes, it can sting. But I\u2019m not going to let it pull me down and letting it piss you off, pull you down, pull you off your rhythm is the worst thing you can do.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it will help to look at it like this: a review, in the end, reflects one<\/em> person\u2019s opinion.\u00a0 Unless<\/em> every single review out there says the same thing (ie: this person\u2019s book sucks rotten eggs), why worry about it?\u00a0 Do they really affect sales?\u00a0 In my opinion?\u00a0 No.<\/p>\n

Negative reviews have actually led me to purchase books.\u00a0 Especially when I find a reviewer who just happens to have taste in books that run opposite to mine.\u00a0 A negative review, after all, doesn\u2019t have to mean that your book sucks\u2014what it can mean is that it just didn\u2019t work for that reviewer.\u00a0 What didn\u2019t work for that<\/em> reviewer could be exactly what will work for me, and hundreds, thousands of other readers.<\/p>\n

So don\u2019t get worked up if you don\u2019t get a positive review.<\/p>\n

And for the love of all books\u2026<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t attack or question the reviewer!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t just pointless, it\u2019s downright foolish.\u00a0 When you do this, basically, what you are doing is telling that reviewer that they don\u2019t have a right to an opinion.\u00a0 They didn\u2019t like your book\u2026and guess what\u2026they are allowed<\/em> to not your book.\u00a0 Have you loved every last book you\u2019ve ever read?\u00a0 If not\u2026then you can\u2019t expect everybody to love your book.\u00a0 Just let it go\u2014move on.\u00a0 Your life as a professional writer will be a lot easier for it, and you won\u2019t end up trotted out as one of the authors behaving badly on some blog, nor will you run the risk of alienating a slew of readers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
