\"hunters-salvation.jpg\"<\/a>I have a stack of pages this high on my desk.\u00a0 It’s my copy edits for Hunter’s Salvation.\u00a0 Copy edits go back to the publisher, they make the corrections and then they lay out the design the book will have, it comes back to me one more time for a read thru and then it’s off for whatever they do to get the book actually printed.<\/p>\n

That won’t happen though unless I get the edits done.\u00a0 Which I’m going to do.\u00a0 Today.<\/p>\n

Then he<\/em> shows up.\u00a0 Who is he?<\/em>\u00a0 He’s the hero from this book… this done<\/em> book so there is no reason for him show up in my office…right?<\/p>\n

Vax:<\/em>\u00a0 Wrong.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/em> Will you leave me alone?\u00a0 I have to get this done so your book can get out on time.<\/p>\n

Vax: (smirking)<\/em>\u00a0 What do I care if you get it done?\u00a0 You already told the story.\u00a0 I know what happens now.<\/p>\n

Me: thinking…this is why it’s not a good idea for characters to talk to you<\/em>.\u00a0 Yes, Vax, I know you know the story…but the readers don’t.<\/p>\n

Vax just shrugs and flops out on the floor.\u00a0 He looks around and looks back at me.<\/em>\u00a0 You need a chair in here.<\/p>\n

Me: glaring at him<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 I have a chair.\u00a0 I’m sitting in it.\u00a0 Because this is MY office.\u00a0 I work in here.\u00a0 You don’t.<\/p>\n

Vax: grinning<\/em>\u00a0 You don’t work here right now until you talk to me.<\/p>\n

Me: groaning\u00a0 <\/em>Fine.\u00a0 Fine.\u00a0 What do you want to talk about?<\/p>\n

Vax: shrugging<\/em> I dunno.<\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 glaring…again…<\/em>\u00a0 Have I told you what a difficult bastard you are?<\/p>\n

Vax: laughing<\/em>\u00a0 You have, a couple of times.\u00a0 Your fault, too.\u00a0 You made me, didn’t you?<\/p>\n

Me: <\/em>Shoot.\u00a0 All I did was give you a name and a face.\u00a0 You took over from there.\u00a0 So it’s your fault you’re a difficult bastard.<\/p>\n

Vax (now HE is the one glaring) <\/em>My fault, huh?\u00a0 You think I wanted…<\/p>\n

Me: <\/em>WOULD YOU SHUT UP?\u00a0 They don’t need to know about that yet.<\/p>\n

Vax: <\/em>Well, what about when you…. (voice trails off and he gives me this squinty eyed look)<\/em>\u00a0 Guess they don’t need to know about that yet, neither.\u00a0 But I didn’t ask for that.\u00a0 You’re a mean little bitch sometimes.<\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 <\/em>Why, thank you.\u00a0 Now will you either say what you gotta say or just go away?\u00a0 I have to work.<\/p>\n

Vax:\u00a0 <\/em>And you call ME difficult.\u00a0 Can’t even insult you.<\/p>\n

Me: (i’ve irritated him, at least a little so I’m good) <\/em>So what are you doing here anyway?\u00a0 Jess get tired of you already?<\/p>\n

Vax just smiles, a slow smile that says a million little things<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Me: laughing<\/em>.\u00a0 Guess not.\u00a0 Hey, by the way… if you’re going to blame me for all the hell in your life, you better thank me for the good things too.\u00a0 Namely Jess.<\/p>\n

Vax stands up and crosses over to me.<\/em>\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 That’s why I’m here.\u00a0 He dipped his head, pressed his lips to mine and said, <\/em>Thank you.<\/p>\n

Wow.\u00a0 oh… wow…by the time I surface from my daze, he’s gone. <\/em><\/p>\n
