{"id":4694,"date":"2010-04-06T08:00:57","date_gmt":"2010-04-06T13:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shilohwalker.wordpress.com\/?p=4694"},"modified":"2010-04-06T08:00:57","modified_gmt":"2010-04-06T13:00:57","slug":"why-i-sometimes-disappear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/2010\/04\/why-i-sometimes-disappear\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I sometimes disappear&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some people might have noticed I&#8217;m not around on\u00a0 some days as much.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/icanhascheezburger.com\/2007\/12\/17\/cute-kittens-dr-tinycat-to-the-or\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/funny-pictures-kitten-doc.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">See More Funny Pictures|LOLcats<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For the past few months, I&#8217;ve been pretending to be a nurse again&#8230;okay, yes, I&#8217;m still a nurse.\u00a0 I never let my license lapse-I&#8217;m too practical for that and writing is not exactly the most stable business.\u00a0 Knowing that, I had plans to keep my hands in for a while.\u00a0 If there comes a time when writing isn&#8217;t profitable or I can&#8217;t provide for my family on it, I do plan on going back to nursing.\u00a0 Stories might be in my head, but if they don&#8217;t help feed my family&#8230;.well, they aren&#8217;t much good to me, then.\u00a0 The nursing license, though, that&#8217;s always going to be useful as long as I do keep my hand in.<\/p>\n<p>Which is why I&#8217;m always willing to help out when I&#8217;m asked.\u00a0 A few months ago, my old manager asked if I could help out for a while-staffing shortages, H1N1 and the cold\/flu season from hell had them swamped and I told them I could do a day a week for a little while.<\/p>\n<p>A little while has turned into a few months and I may keep it up for a bit longer.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve discovered that I miss it sometimes.\u00a0 I miss the kids, and I miss some of the people I worked with.\u00a0 I miss actual person-to-person adult interaction&#8230;writing is an extremely solitary job, and even the online interaction doesn&#8217;t quite make up\u00a0 for that.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t plan on turning in my keyboard for my stethoscope&#8230; the stethoscope does nothing to silence the voices in my head.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, full time nursing is too hard on my heart emotionally.\u00a0\u00a0 But even as heartbreaking as it can be, it&#8217;s a job that has rewards like nothing you&#8217;ve ever experienced, unless you&#8217;ve actually done it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s nice to be reminded of that.<\/p>\n<p>So for those who have wondered why there are days when I don&#8217;t seem like I&#8217;m &#8216;here&#8217;&#8230;. *G* it may be because I&#8217;m not here.\u00a0 I&#8217;m elsewhere.\u00a0 ;o)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people might have noticed I&#8217;m not around on\u00a0 some days as much.
