\u201cEnough.\u201d\u00a0 The word, coolly spoken, just bare managed to penetrate the haze of fury that gripped Duke.\u00a0 Kelsey stepped up and laid a hand on his shoulder.<\/p>\n

He knew what she was doing\u2014he felt it, the calm she tried to project into him.\u00a0 Tried and failed.\u00a0 He was too fucking pissed. He had to force his hands to let go, had to force himself to step away.\u00a0 He dragged in a deep breath of air, but it did nothing to clear his head.\u00a0 The air was ripe with the scents of adrenaline, Neal\u2019s anger, and the lingering trace of Ana\u2019s fear.<\/p>\n

Neal, fangs dropped and his eyes half-wild, glared at Duke.\u00a0 \u201cWhat in the fuck is your problem?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNeal, I\u2019m thinking you\u2019re the problem,\u201d Malachi said.\u00a0 \u201cIf I were you, I\u2019d shut the bloody hell up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The big vampire had been utterly silent until just a moment ago.\u00a0 Now he studied Duke with curious eyes, his head cocked.\u00a0 He had dark blue eyes, and they were usually about as easy to read as a closed book, but right now, they danced with humor.<\/p>\n

For some reason, Duke knew the humor was directed at him but he really didn\u2019t give a damn.\u00a0 \u201cIf you\u2019re expecting me to apologize, you\u2019re going to be waiting a good long while.\u201d\u00a0 Then he circled around them and left.\u00a0 At the door, he stopped and looked at Neal.\u00a0 He curled his lip and growled.<\/p>\n

Malachi and Kelsey watched as he left.\u00a0 \u201cIt gets annoying\u2014how often you are right,\u201d Mal said to his wife.<\/p>\n

She just smiled. The smile died, though, as she shifted her gaze to Neal.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI believe it\u2019s best if you left now.\u201d<\/p>\n
