The swell of psychic energy rose in the room once more and Neal grimaced as it pushed him back once more.<\/p>\n

\u201cWant some help?\u201d Brad asked, a vicious smile on his face, one that made him seem far too old.\u00a0 Far too bitter.\u00a0 Far too angry.<\/p>\n

Ana shoved between them and Brad deflected his next psychic strike\u2014just like she\u2019d suspected he would.\u00a0 He scowled at her.\u00a0 \u201cAna, get out of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Behind her, she heard Neal snarl, sensed his moving\u2014quick. Too quick.<\/p>\n

Several things happened at once.<\/p>\n

Voices emerged from the hall behind them, deep, angry and full of authority.<\/p>\n

The vampire who\u2019d been shooting pool with Duke appeared from the mess of bodies, grabbing Neal as Ana turned.\u00a0 Neal\u2019s hand was only inches away from her, caught in midair.\u00a0 The new vampire stood there, holding Neal\u2019s wrist with apparent ease while the weaker man struggled ineffectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet the fuck off of me,\u201d Neal snarled.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, Dominic, I think you\u2019re good right where you\u2019re at.\u201d\u00a0 The female voice was hard and cold, and Ana felt something inside her shrivel with fear as Kelsey Hughes came storming into the room.<\/p>\n

The redhead paused in the door, taking in everything with one quick glance.\u00a0 Her husband Malachi sauntered past her and flicked a look at Neal that had the vampire\u2019s eyes going wide with apprehension.\u00a0 Two other instructors trailed in after him\u2014and Duke.<\/p>\n

Planting her hands on her hips, Kelsey demanded, \u201cWhat in the hell is going on here?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing, Ms. Hughes.\u201d Wrapping an arm around Brad, Ana pulled him against her.<\/p>\n

Kelsey cocked a brow and glanced from Neal to the siblings.\u00a0 Neal still had his wrist suspended in mid-air and the vampire\u2014Dominic\u2014stood there still as a statue, like he could hold that position all night and well into morning.\u00a0 \u201cNothing.\u00a0 I feel several spikes in energy, there\u2019s broken glass, I walk in right as is somebody coming at you\u2014from behind<\/span><\/em>\u2014and you want me to buy that line?\u201d<\/p>\n

Blowing out a breath, Ana said, \u201cIt\u2019s my fault\u2014Brad came in a bad time and he\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kid did what nobody else in here had the decency to do.\u201d\u00a0 Dominic cut in. He let go of Neal but before the younger vampire could back away, Dominic got in his face.\u00a0 \u201cYou like taking swings at kids and woman?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat kid<\/span><\/em> attacked first,\u201d Neal snapped.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, after he came in and found you putting your hands on his sister. Although she\u2019d done made it clear she didn’t want your hands on her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Neal\u2019s response was cut off as a low, eerie growl whispered through the room.<\/p>\n

Automatically, all eyes followed the sound\u2014<\/p>\n

To Duke, standing in the door way and staring at Neal like he\u2019d just found his midnight snack.\u00a0 Kelsey shifted, casually placing her body in between the two men, blocking their view of each other.\u00a0 Her voice calm and cool, she said, \u201cNeal, is that right?\u201d<\/p>\n
