He came up quietly, quickly, so quickly she didn\u2019t have the time to avoid him as he placed himself in her path.\u00a0\u00a0 He smiled, flashing his fangs at her, and reached up, toyed with the ends of her hair.\u00a0 \u201cWhere you off to in such a hurry, baby?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo my room,\u201d she said, hoping the ice in her voice would camouflage the fear\u2014even as she knew it wouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Damn vamps, they could smell it with the same ease she could sense it.\u00a0 His grin widened and he tugged slightly.\u00a0 \u201cWant some company?\u201d<\/p>\n

Batting his hand aside, she said, \u201cNot hardly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh\u2026so cold.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curling her lip at him, she went to go around him.\u00a0 He lifted an arm, blocking her exit and caging her between his body, the door and the mass of people watching with avid interest.\u00a0 \u201cWhy you have to be so cold?\u201d<\/p>\n

She swallowed the knot in her throat.\u00a0 She had to say something\u2014had to do something to get him away from her.\u00a0 He might not respect strength, but most of these people did. \u00a0She opened her mouth to say something\u2014anything<\/span><\/em>\u2014<\/p>\n

Then, damn it, Bradley, her knight in shining armor, appeared in the doorway\u2014just beyond Neal\u2019s shoulder.\u00a0 \u201cLeave her alone, Neal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her little brother had shot up over the past four years, but he was still too skinny, giving him an odd, stretched out appearance.\u00a0 Once his body had a chance to catch up, she imagined he\u2019d bulk up some, but she seriously hoped he didn\u2019t get much taller.\u00a0 He already had two inches on her.<\/p>\n

But he was still inches shorter than Neal\u2014and he was a human teenager, where Neal was a vampire who\u2019d already been an adult when he was Changed.\u00a0 Neal shot Brad a bored glance.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m talking to your sister, kid, not you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re not talking to her.\u201d\u00a0 Brad took a step forward, a harsh note entering his voice.<\/p>\n

People who knew him would have backed away.<\/p>\n

But this particular rec room was set aside for the adult students and faculty.\u00a0 Brad was a bit of a special case and had special teachers who worked with him.\u00a0 Not one of those teachers was here.\u00a0 Nobody in here had ever trained with Bradley, and not one of the people in the room had any experience with him, other than the stories they\u2019d heard.\u00a0 \u00a0Stories most of them probably brushed off\u2014after all, had dangerous could a fourteen-year-old human kid be?<\/p>\n

In Brad\u2019s case, the answer was very dangerous<\/em>.<\/p>\n
