Brannon wanted to find whatever had hurt her and tear it apart.<\/p>\n

She stood in the doorway, staring at him and he reached up, cupped her face in his hands.<\/p>\n

Slowly, he brushed his thumb across her lower lip.<\/p>\n

A slow shudder wracked her body.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s happened?\u201d he asked. \u201cWhat\u2019s hurt you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Clouds entered her eyes. \u201cNothing,\u201d she said, shaking her head. \u201cI\u2019m just\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

She backed up and turned. \u201cCome on in, Brannon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outside, the wind started to howl and she moved over to the window, staring outside. \u201cRain\u2019s coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

After closing and locking the door behind him, he crossed the floor to her.<\/p>\n

He had the oddest feeling he was walking on eggshells.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnless you\u2019re upset over the weather report, then I don\u2019t care.\u201d He curved his hands over her shoulders and pulled her back against him. \u201cNow if you are upset by the weather\u2026 well, I can\u2019t do anything about it. I can\u2019t beat up the meteorologists and Mother Nature never returns my calls.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a bitch, isn\u2019t she?\u201d Hannah laughed weakly. Then she dropped her head back against his chest. \u201cDon\u2019t\u2026it\u2019s nothing, Brannon.\u201d<\/p>\n

He rubbed his cheek against hers. \u201cThat look on your face isn\u2019t nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe. But there\u2019s nothing you can do about it.\u201d She turned and slid her arms around his waist. \u201cHow is Marc doing?\u201d<\/p>\n

He wanted to push it, but figured now wasn\u2019t the time. \u201cOkay. I guess.\u201d Tucking her up snug against him, he rubbed his cheek against her hair. \u201cHe\u2019s busying himself with some blends for next year and going crazy about a fungus that he thinks could<\/span> hit our crops.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA fungus.\u201d Hannah wrinkled her nose as she looked up at him. \u201cWhat, like a grape fungus?\u201d<\/p>\n

Brannon flashed her a grin. \u201cThe exciting life of a vintner, Hannah.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHmmm. I bet.\u201d She reached up, almost absently, and scraped her fingers against his jaw. \u201cNeve was telling me something about how she\u2019s getting schooled in winemaking\u2014you roped her into helping write copy for the brochures.\u201d A faint grin came and went. \u201cI\u2019ve got to admit, I like my wine, but my eyes glazed over after she started explaining there are like five hundred chemical compounds\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFifteen hundred.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah blinked and then her eyes really<\/span> started to glaze. \u201cAh\u2026whoa. Are you serious?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah.\u201d Grinning, he hugged her. \u201cBut don\u2019t worry. I won\u2019t bore you with the details and specifics, or tell you why you only find wines like muscadines down south.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGee. Thanks.\u201d She rubbed the mound of her belly and went back to staring outside. Rain was starting to come down. It was those hard, slow drops that were a prelude to a heavy storm. \u201cI really don\u2019t want to talk about muscadine wine anyway. Seeing as how I can\u2019t have any for a few more months.\u201d<\/p>\n

A heavy sigh escaped her. \u201cI could really use a glass of wine, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy don\u2019t you talk to me instead?\u201d<\/p>\n

For a moment, he thought she would.<\/p>\n

But then she turned to him and placed her hands on his chest.<\/p>\n

His heart made a hard leap when she covered it with her palm. \u201cI\u2019ve got a better idea. Why don\u2019t you distract me?\u201d<\/p>\n

Brannon suspected it wasn\u2019t smart.<\/p>\n

Whatever was bothering her, she really did need to talk about it. And he needed to be the guy she was able to talk to. He needed to be the<\/span> guy period, because he was shit-faced in love with her and had been for\u2026hell. He didn\u2019t even know when it had started.<\/p>\n

But then she trailed that hand down lower and cupped him through his jeans.<\/p>\n

His eyes started to roll back in his head as she freed him from his jeans and briefs in short order. She closed her hand around him, moving with quick, rough strokes that would have had him coming all over her if she wasn\u2019t careful.<\/p>\n

He caught her wrist.<\/p>\n

\u201cStop,\u201d he rasped, backing her up against the window.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to.\u201d She lifted her face to his, staring into his eyes. \u201cI don\u2019t want to stop. I don\u2019t want to think. I just\u2026want<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHannah\u2026\u201d His heart broke a little.<\/p>\n

\u201cMake love to me, Brannon.\u201d There was both plea and demand in her voice.<\/p>\n

He was completely her slave, because he couldn\u2019t deny her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will.\u201d He went to strip her shirt away, but she shoved him back and yanked it off.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want slow.\u201d She stared at him, a challenge in her eyes. \u201cI don\u2019t want sweet<\/span> and I don\u2019t want you to stroke me and pat me and try to make me feel better.\u201d<\/p>\n

She caught the lapels of his shirt and jerked him back to her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen what do you want?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want you to fuck me.\u201d She stared at him, her gaze unapologetic. \u201cI want you to make me forget all the things I\u2019m starting to remember\u2026and all the things I can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

There, he realized.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where the hurt was. Right there. But he couldn\u2019t fix it. All he could do was be there\u2026and this. He could do exactly what she\u2019d just asked and he\u2019d enjoy it. He\u2019d enjoy it and pretend the twist and rub of guilt didn\u2019t exist. He could ignore the guilt.<\/p>\n
