Years have passed since Will flung himself headlong into demon central. Everyone has told Mandy he\u2019s lost to them, but she still won\u2019t believe it. He was her heart and soul\u2014still is\u2014even if he never admitted they belonged together.<\/p>\n

When a friend is nearly torn through a rip between the worlds, Mandy gets the sign she\u2019s hoped and prayed for. Her friend is thrust back through to safety by no other than Will himself.<\/p>\n

With all hell breaking loose on earth, only two Grimm<\/span> can be spared for the mission to retrieve their leader\u2014Mandy and the only otherGrimm<\/span> crazy enough to go with her.<\/p>\n

I tried hard not to look at the ruin of the castle.<\/p>\n

When I did, I saw it as I had in my dream, the imposing, majestic power of it.\u00a0 And I saw him.<\/p>\n

Pulling me to him, stroking my face, my hair.<\/p>\n

Then fading, as I woke.<\/p>\n

It was easier to see the castle now, in a crumbling ruin,<\/p>\n

Considering what had happened here, the grass should be withered and brown and\u2026<\/p>\n

No.<\/p>\n

There shouldn\u2019t be<\/em> any grass.<\/p>\n

Withered and brown grass, after all, could become green again.\u00a0 I\u2019d seen it.\u00a0 All you had to have was some rain.\u00a0 Some sun.\u00a0 The right conditions and anything could thrive.<\/p>\n

The right conditions.<\/p>\n

What a laugh.<\/p>\n

No.\u00a0 There shouldn\u2019t be any grass here.<\/p>\n

There shouldn\u2019t be anything<\/em> here except perhaps field of nothingness.\u00a0 Dead things.\u00a0 Corpses left piled left and right to mark the battles we\u2019d fought, something to mark the battles we lost\u2026<\/p>\n

And maybe a marker.<\/p>\n

Something ugly and bleak to mark what I<\/em> had lost.<\/p>\n

Instead there was green grass.<\/p>\n

The ruin of the castle, somehow beautiful despite its decay, rose into the air, a testament to time and to tragedy.<\/p>\n

Perhaps that was the marker.<\/p>\n

Bending forward, I curled my hand into the pliant green blades and closed my eyes.<\/p>\n

I could still taste the snow in the air.<\/p>\n

I could still see his face before me.<\/p>\n

I could feel his warmth against my skin and that surreal power blasting against my shields.<\/p>\n

It had been two years.<\/p>\n

Two years since Will had stood before me.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cNo!\u201d The panic that had blindly driven her for the past few days was gone.\u00a0 No Mandy realized.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t <\/em>gone.\u00a0 It just wasn\u2019t blind any more.\u00a0 As she hurtled toward Will, past that gaping void that opened into something so terrible her mind didn\u2019t want to accept it, Mandy focused on one thing.\u00a0 And one thing alone.<\/em><\/p>\n

Will.<\/em><\/p>\n

She drove her fist into his chest\u2014a pointless sort of punch, but it was all she could do at that moment.\u00a0 Will\u2019s only reaction was to reach out and cup her face.<\/em><\/p>\n

Tears were already flowing.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cYou son of a bitch.\u201d\u00a0 She tangled her hands in his hair\u2014white as the fallen snow, softer than the finest silk.\u00a0 It felt oddly warm, almost alive.\u00a0 She jerked his head toward hers, pressed her brow to his.\u00a0 Her heart was breaking. \u201cYou can\u2019t do this to me. Don\u2019t you know what you\u2019re doing?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cYes.\u201d His voice was gentle and that hurt her even more. \u201cBecause I\u2019m doing it to me as well. But you must understand. This, you, me\u2026it could have never happened. Happiness was something I was never meant to have. And you would have made me happy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

When he kissed her, Mandy thought she would die.\u00a0 If pain alone could kill an angel, in that moment, her heart would have stopped.<\/em><\/p>\n

She wished it would have.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cIf I could have let myself,\u201d Will murmured softly. \u201cI would have loved you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
