By the time Justin had finished wrapping his mind around what he\u2019d just learned\u2014or at least shoving it into a box until he was ready to deal with it\u2014we were ready to go.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re just going to have to drive through the night,\u201d Justin said, tossing his bag into the car.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a place,\u201d Abraham offered, walking alongside me.<\/p>\n

It was somewhat disconcerting to realize his nearness didn\u2019t bother me. It wasn\u2019t any more disturbing than having Scott standing next to me, or Chang.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll make do,\u201d came Justin\u2019s terse reply.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should let me help you,\u201d Abraham said, his voice flat. \u201cYou agreed to share information with me. I\u2019ve shared information. You\u2019ve withheld it. That\u2019s not like you, Justin. I can be of help and you know it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin opened his mouth only to shut it without saying anything.<\/p>\n

Abraham pushed his advantage. He looked back at me, then at Tate. \u201cThree of you. You intend to do this with only three of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin lifted a shoulder. \u201cWith the plan I have, I could do it with two, but I like to be prepared.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abraham lifted a brow. \u201cA fourth would be better. I know where you\u2019re going. Don\u2019t be foolish.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI got this.\u201d Neither of them looked at me as they argued.<\/p>\n

That pointed avoidance had me narrowing my eyes, because I had a feeling I knew why Justin was refusing the offered help.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a mutual interest.\u201d Abraham was one stubborn son of a bitch.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, we do.\u201d Justin opened the door, but lingered, eying Abraham. \u201cLook, you wanted us gone, so we\u2019re going. But listen up, I\u2019ve worked with too many vamps before. Once you get the man you want, you\u2019re just as likely to bail and I plan on getting all<\/em> of them out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI will help you with that\u2014you have my word.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot the issue.\u201d Justin went to climb inside.<\/p>\n

\u201cJustin.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stilled.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo we need another set of hands?\u201d My own hands were slippery with sweat.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can handle it,\u201d Justin said. The words were completely and utterly devoid of emotion. He didn\u2019t sound confident but he didn\u2019t sound doubtful. That worried me more than anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s not what she asked,\u201d Tate said quietly, moving to stand at my shoulder\u2014not a place I\u2019d ever<\/em> expected her to be.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t look at her. \u201cYes or no, can we use more hands on this?\u201d
