It was erotic as hell, Boone thought, watching as she drove her fist into the man\u2019s face.\u00a0 He\u2019d already been on his way to intervene\u2014as had two others in the bar\u2014but she had handled it on her own.<\/p>\n
Still, when the man staggered after her, Boone caught him, drove a vicious punch into his gut and when he doubled over, he hammered a blow to the back of his head\u2014checking it to make sure he didn\u2019t do any real harm.<\/p>\n
Looking up, he caught the bartender\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n
The bartender looked at him, then back at the woman and shook his head.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll get that taken care of,\u201d he said, his eyes flicking to the man lying facedown on the floor.<\/p>\n
As he called out to a couple of the men near the bar, Boone went to nod at the woman.\u00a0 Forget the beer.\u00a0 Forget trying to relax.\u00a0 He\u2019d just go\u2014<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
She was right there.\u00a0 Inches away.\u00a0 Long hair, nearly to her waist, hung free, straight as rain.\u00a0 Her eyes were wide, still glinting with temper, but a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think you had him handled for the most part.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, but\u2026\u201d She looked down at her hand.<\/p>\n
He saw the scraped, swollen knuckles and all but swallowed his tongue as she looked away, the long, dark sweep of her hair falling over one shoulder as she stared at the ground.<\/p>\n
\u201cHitting hurts,\u201d she said, her voice absent.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah. Put some ice on it.\u201d\u00a0 She was still staring at the ground and he found himself staring at her back, long and elegant and pale.\u00a0 Everything about her seemed long and elegant.\u00a0 Strong, too, and his blood started to burn hotter as she went to step into a pair of heels.<\/p>\n
The muscles in her calves flexed as she straightened and then looked back at him.\u00a0 Just what in the hell was it about a simple pair of shoes that changed almost everything about a female, from the way they stood to the way they walked?<\/p>\n
He could almost feel his brain cells dying as she continued to stand there, watching him.\u00a0 Misty green eyes held his without a hint of flirtation or pretense and that was unnerving as hell.<\/p>\n
Okay. Time to go. He nodded at her, words completely failing him.<\/p>\n
