{"id":33707,"date":"2014-08-12T09:35:57","date_gmt":"2014-08-12T13:35:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/?p=33707"},"modified":"2014-08-12T09:35:57","modified_gmt":"2014-08-12T13:35:57","slug":"some-losses-hurt-more-than-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/2014\/08\/some-losses-hurt-more-than-others\/","title":{"rendered":"Some losses hurt more than others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man who brought so much laughter into the world is gone. \u00a0I think the world just became a little bit darker when the news went out last night about Robin Williams.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a miserable sort of week&#8230; I have to bury a friend tomorrow and now, looking at all the articles about Robin Williams, it makes me that much sadder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/RW-2014.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33708\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/RW-2014-300x300.jpg?resize=300%2C300\" alt=\"RW 2014\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The movie\u00a0<em>Patch Adams<\/em> is probably my favorite RW movie, because it&#8217;s got such a true message to it, and the man behind the story, the real Patch Adams seems like an amazing man, who has viewed medicine differently from the beginning. If we could get the rest of the world to see through his eyes, maybe we could change how often people are lost to suicide.<\/p>\n<p>This is from an old CNN interview, but the real Patch was asked about what he thought of Robin Williams portraying him in the movie and Dr. Adams replied:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0&#8220;I think Robin himself is compassion, generosity and funny&#8230;&#8221; <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chasingthefrog.com\/reelfaces\/patchadams.php\" target=\"_blank\">more<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a pretty powerful mark to leave on the world, and a beautiful gift he gave while he was here. \u00a0That he offered so much joy while there was that much pain inside him is heartbreaking.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve said it before and I&#8217;ll say it again. Depression is an ugly, vicious bitch and it lies. \u00a0You&#8217;re not alone. There are people who love you and people who care. \u00a0Reach out when you need it.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"color: #395272; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">National Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-273-8255<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Later today, we have a visitation for the friend I lost a few days, an old man who had the kindest, purest, gentlest heart of anybody I&#8217;ve ever known.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s going to be a rough for days, especially for me and my husband. Later this week, I think we&#8217;ll watch Mrs. Doubtfire with the kids. Laughter is good for the soul.<\/p>\n<p>Treasure the people you have you in your life.
