{"id":33429,"date":"2014-05-05T10:23:14","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T14:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/?p=33429"},"modified":"2014-05-05T10:23:14","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T14:23:14","slug":"bringbackourgirls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/2014\/05\/bringbackourgirls\/","title":{"rendered":"#bringBackourGirls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Have you heard about this?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Little media attention is being given to it. \u00a0In the past few days, FINALLY, CNN is talking about it. \u00a0I&#8217;m now seeing news going up on USA Today, ABC &amp; MSN. \u00a0It happened almost a month ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">300 girls kidnapped in Nigeria. \u00a0Fifty escaped. \u00a0The rest? \u00a0They are being sold into slavery&#8230;why?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Because they were being educated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2014\/05\/04\/world\/africa\/nigeria-abducted-girls\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">CNN&#8217;s article<\/span><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Boko Haram&#8217;s name translates to &#8220;Western education is a sin,&#8221; and the group especially opposes the education of women. Under its version of Sharia law, women should be at home raising children and looking after their husbands, not at school learning to read and write.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">The leader has announced he&#8217;s selling them&#8230;as brides, and some have already sold for $12. \u00a0<em>Selling<\/em> them, because they dared to learn. These monsters are\u00a0<em>selling\u00a0<\/em>children, and the media ignored it. So many people are unaware.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Know what finally probably caught the notice of the media? \u00a0Twitter. \u00a0With the #bringBackourGirls campaign somebody started. \u00a0I can&#8217;t say for certain that&#8217;s what did it, but all week, people talked about it&#8230;on twitter, and the news said nothing. \u00a0Smaller outlets, mostly overseas and I think in Africa did, and some that were geared for the black\u00a0community. \u00a0But nothing in the mainstream media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Then people started tweeting #bringBackourGirls. All last week, and throughout the weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Now, the media noticed,\u00a0<em>finally.\u00a0<\/em>Last week, you couldn&#8217;t find it on the major news sites, and now it&#8217;s headlining. \u00a0Now the Nigerian president is saying something and acting like he&#8217;ll draw a hardline. \u00a0Want to add your voice? \u00a0Get on twitter, if you have an account and talk about it. \u00a0Tweet with #bringBackourGirls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Their lives matter. \u00a0They shouldn&#8217;t be ignored.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you heard about this?
