\u201cI got words I need to say to you, but I\u2019m not sure where to start.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0 Staring out at the dark street, she thought back to how often she had to hear the very words he probably felt he had to say.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ve heard them all before, Dean.\u00a0 They change nothing, you know.\u00a0 I\u2019m raw right now, but the wounds are old.\u00a0 You didn\u2019t know.\u00a0 It\u2019s cool.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo.\u201d He shook his head and said, \u201cIt\u2019s not cool.\u00a0 Maybe these are old wounds, but I was taking digs at you over a personal thing and that just makes it more of a problem for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
She slanted him a look and felt her heart freeze in her chest, for one long, long moment.<\/p>\n
There was something she\u2019d meant to say.\u00a0 The words died, right there on the tip of her tongue as he took a deep, slow breath that seemed to shudder through him.<\/p>\n
She felt it echo through her as well, her skin drawing tight while heat buffeted her.<\/p>\n
No . . . no . . . no. <\/i>Helplessly, she tried to gather up the strength to get up and walk away.\u00a0 This was no good. She couldn\u2019t do this\u2014<\/p>\n
\u201cYou got that look in your eyes,\u201d he said, a faint smirk twisting his mouth.\u00a0 He had the damnedest mouth.\u00a0 She\u2019d had dreams about that mouth.\u00a0 Dreams about capturing his face in her hands, pressing her lips to his, feeling his body against hers as she learned how he felt, how he tasted.<\/p>\n
Not good.\u00a0 Not good at all.<\/i><\/p>\n
\u201cIt would be easier, you know.\u201d\u00a0 He stared out over the street, that deep, rich voice of his level and smooth, rolling over her like liquid gold.\u00a0 She felt something melt deep inside her and she had to bite back a groan.\u00a0 \u201cIf I didn\u2019t look at you and sometimes see the same damn thing I feel.\u00a0 Because I know you feel it.\u00a0 But you ignore it.\u00a0 Ignore me.\u00a0 That\u2019s what pushed me.\u00a0 I was a fucking asshole, and I know it.\u00a0 That\u2019s why it\u2019s not cool.\u00a0 So I\u2019m sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Licking her lips, she nodded. Get up,<\/i> she told herself.\u00a0 Her legs didn\u2019t want to cooperate and even once she managed to get<\/i> vertical, her thighs were all trembling and weak. Swiping her palms down the outside of her jeans, she darted a quick look at him.\u00a0 \u201cDon\u2019t . . .\u201d The words tangled on her tongue as their gazes connected.\u00a0 \u201cDon\u2019t let the thing about my mom get to you.\u00a0 You didn\u2019t know. It\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere you go,\u201d he murmured, turning his head, dipping it down just a little.\u00a0 The heavy fall of dreadlocks obscured his face and she had the insane urge to reach down, fist her hand in his hair so she could see him, see his face.\u00a0 Proud, arched cheekbones, that fucking sexy mouth, and those intense eyes.<\/p>\n
She had no business wanting him.\u00a0 A want like this scared her.<\/p>\n
Because it was<\/i> so deep, so strong, she made herself take another step back.<\/p>\n
Dean just nodded. \u201cIt\u2019s okay, Jensen. I get it.\u00a0 You and me, we\u2019re not going there.\u00a0 So I\u2019ll . . .\u201d He blew out a breath.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ll just stop.\u201d<\/p>\n
The words ripped out of her.\u00a0 \u201cStop what<\/i>?\u201d<\/p>\n
He didn\u2019t answer.\u00a0 Long fingers wrapped around the neck of the bottle of Woodford Reserve he had next to him and he rose.\u00a0 \u201cI hope you can get some rest this weekend.\u00a0 Find some peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou didn\u2019t answer me.\u201d<\/p>\n
He paused halfway up the steps. \u201cI can\u2019t stop myself from thinking about you.\u00a0 But I haven\u2019t made much of an attempt to hide the fact that I\u2019m interested.\u00a0 I can do better, so I will.\u00a0 You don\u2019t want to see it, so I\u2019ll keep it to myself.\u00a0 Sooner or later, it will fade.\u201d<\/p>\n
Will it<\/i>?<\/p>\n
She stared at the strong line of his back as he crossed the porch, her heart slamming away in her chest.<\/p>\n
A knot formed in her throat.<\/p>\n
This . . . this intensity she felt every time she looked at him.\u00a0 That<\/i> could fade?<\/p>\n
It was the most real thing she\u2019d felt since . . .<\/p>\n
She didn\u2019t even realize she was moving until he\u2019d turned to look at her.<\/p>\n
Then she was doing the very thing she\u2019d dreamed about.<\/p>\n
His skin was warm against hers, the light stubble scraping against her palms.\u00a0 Because that light touch wasn\u2019t enough, she kept one palm on his face and then drove the other hand into his hair, tangled it in his dreads.\u00a0 The texture was coarse against her hand and she shuddered at the thought of feeling him, all of him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want it to fade,\u201d she whispered as she rose onto her toes and pressed her mouth to his.<\/p>\n
