She\u2019s here to get in his face for an explanation. But no touching. Her psychic abilities make physical contact\u2026complicated. Yet something about this relationship made her think things would be different. She\u2019s not in Hell twenty minutes before bad vibes have her skin crawling.<\/p>\n

Corruption has stained the very fabric of Linc Dawson\u2019s town, and now it\u2019s stolen something very dear to him. The last thing he has time for is nursing Jay\u2019s broken heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cInto the shower,\u201d he said, pressing a kiss to her mouth, smiling as a long, slow shudder rocked her. She did that, a lot, like his touch was something that sent her very world quaking.<\/p>\n

Dealing with his jeans, he urged her into the enclosure and turned on the jets. It was programmed to the temperature he preferred and he watched as her eyes closed in bliss. He was going to enjoy this, slicking her down with his soap, washing her hair. As he slicked the shampoo through her pink- and blue-streaked hair, he was caught off-guard. The rainbow of color washed out and she smiled at him, a sleepy, sexy smile that turned his dick to stone and his heart to mush. \u201cHair chalk,\u201d she said softly. \u201cI don\u2019t always have the sort of job that lets me walk around with pink and blue hair. Plus sometimes I want orange or green. Or orange and pink.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re into variety,\u201d he murmured, rinsing the shampoo from strands made dark gold by the water.<\/p>\n

He eased closer to the gash, checked the bandage. \u201cFeel okay?\u201d he asked, painfully aware of the rasp in his voice.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah.\u201d She shrugged. \u201cJust sore.\u201d<\/p>\n

He nodded, told himself he should finish this up, tuck her in bed.<\/p>\n

He wouldn\u2019t though, not unless that was what she wanted.<\/p>\n

He turned her around, stroked his hands down her naked back. Pale skin, swirls of ink. \u201cAll these tattoos,\u201d he muttered, pressing a kiss the vining roses that climbed up her spine. \u201cThey drive me nuts. Why roses?\u201d<\/p>\n

Her breath skittered out of her on a sigh and she glanced back at him, her hair dripping in her eyes. \u201cMy grandmother\u2026reminds me of her. Happy memories. There were roses that climbed up the wall to the window of the room where I stayed when I visited.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were a lot of roses.<\/p>\n

And thorns. Many thorns. \u201cAnd the thorns?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the pain.\u201d Her eyes clouded and she looked back at the wall. \u201cA lot of it, growing up. I put a thorn for the really bad memories.\u201d<\/p>\n

He had counted nearly three dozen thorns.<\/p>\n

He paused, his hands tightening on her hips. Just what could linger over from childhood that a woman of twenty-five would feel the need to mark her flesh like this? Over and over? \u201cAre the thorns done?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

For a long, long moment, she was quiet, the only sound the water raining down around them. Then she sighed, pressing her brow to the wall in front of her. \u201cNo. I\u2019ll never be done, Linc.\u201d<\/p>\n

She turned around them and slid her hands around his waist, plastering her wet, naked body to his. \u201cI don\u2019t want to talk about the roses, the thorns\u2026I don\u2019t want to talk at all. I want you. Just you.\u201d<\/p>\n

He hesitated. In the back of his mind he suspected this was a mistake. There were things he needed to do, things they needed to say. And he couldn\u2019t help but think how he planned on dragging this fucking town down with him. Into the pits of a very real hell. Making everybody who\u2019d turned their backs on his daughter suffer.<\/p>\n

Jay\u2019s hands came up, cupped his face. \u201cOne night,\u201d she whispered. Her lips were cool, soft against his, and the water slicked their bodies together. \u201cWe can have one night.\u201d<\/p>\n

One night.<\/p>\n

He banded his arm around her waist and hauled her against him.<\/p>\n

With his free hand, he fumbled and managed to turn off the shower.<\/p>\n

If they only had the one night, he\u2019d have her in his bed.<\/p>\n

Where he\u2019d dreamed of just this.<\/p>\n

He moved out of the shower and she almost made him forget his intentions, almost made him lose his mind as she slid against him, wet and slick, the folds of her sex parting around him as she arched and moved, wiggling almost desperately.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow,\u201d she muttered, leaning in to sink her teeth into his lower lip.<\/p>\n

\u201cBed.\u201d<\/p>\n

It’s a novella, not a full length book. Also, my FBI books do get kind of dark, sometimes violent, so be warned.<\/p>\n

Reviews\u00a0<\/span>really<\/em> do matter. \u00a0The more reviews a book has, the more ‘discoverable’ a book is…basically, the easier a book is to find during search results, the more it pops up with ‘other readers looked at’, etc, all that crap. \u00a0This means…more sales. \u00a0While that doesn’t matter to you, in the long run, it’s good for you, because if you\u00a0<\/span>like<\/em> a series, the series that do well are the ones the author is going to pursue the hardest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since I’m trying to build interest in the FBI Psychics, if you dig that series, you can imagine why reviews on these are really, really crucial. \u00a0The series is kind of a turning point.<\/p>\n

While this book\u00a0is<\/em> part of a series, I write the FBI Psychics to stand alone. \u00a0The only connecting theme is that one or both characters will be a psychic so even if you haven’t read any of the other books, you’ll be able to follow fine.<\/p>\n
