Some cool news\u2026 \u00a0Blade Song<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0is the Book of the Week on iBooks this week! This means\u2026 it\u2019s free! If you haven\u2019t tried it, now is the time. For those used to my Shiloh stuff, be aware\u2026 this isn\u2019t romance. \u00a0It\u2019s got a romantic subplot, but it\u2019s\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0romance.<\/p>\n

\"Blade<\/p>\n

Kit Colbana\u2014half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades\u2014has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake. So why is she so nervous?<\/p>\n

It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters\u2014especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money. Or maybe it\u2019s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she\u2019s gotten in over her head.<\/p>\n

Or maybe it\u2019s because if she fails\u2014she\u2019s dead. If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she\u2019ll even live long to collect her fee\u2026<\/p>\n

Excerpt<\/p>\n

The sword was on my bed and she burned unnaturally bright.<\/p>\n

He glanced at her and said, \u201cIf you even move toward that thing, I\u2019m going to bend it into knots.\u201d<\/p>\n

I curled my lip at him. \u201cLike you could.\u201d<\/p>\n

He leaned forward. \u201cIs that a dare, little girl?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. It\u2019s a plainly stated fact. Now\u2026why don\u2019t you do us both a favor and get the fuck out of my bedroom?\u201d I jutted my chin out, rotated my wrist again as the itching and heat flared. The sword flashed brighter. I usually wasn\u2019t this close to her without having her in my hand.<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t help it, though. Ever since he\u2019d spouted off that little piece about a reckoning, I\u2019d been on eggshells, just waiting for whatever the hell he had in mind. If he thought he could leave another mark on me, I\u2019d bloody him.<\/p>\n

He leaped over the bed. I backpedaled and faded into nothingness, going invisible as he came for me.<\/p>\n

This was one time where his sense of smell might not help.<\/p>\n

The entire room smelled of me.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsidering how mouthy you are, you\u2019re a damned coward.\u201d A smirk was on his lips as I brushed by him, just barely missing his outstretched hand. He moved back over by the bed and settled on the foot of it, that sly, Cheshire cat grin curling his lips as he reached behind him, closing his hand over the grip of my sword.<\/p>\n

My breath hitched in my chest.<\/p>\n

Mine<\/em>\u2014<\/p>\n

His eyes flickered my way. No, he couldn\u2019t see me and tracking me by scent was harder. But he heard that. I couldn\u2019t stop the way my heart reacted when he touched my blade. Couldn\u2019t stop it.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t like seeing me play with your toy, huh?\u201d He lifted her and caught the tip in his other hand. Muscles flexed. \u201cHow about if I twist it up a little?\u201d<\/p>\n

He couldn\u2019t. Others had tried.<\/p>\n

But she was mine\u2014<\/p>\n

She flared, bright as the sun, and disappeared. I dropped the invisibility as she settled into my hand. \u201cKeep your damned paws off my blade, cat.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was staring rather dumbly into his hands.<\/p>\n

A rather queer look settled over his face as he lifted his head to study me. \u201cSo that\u2019s how you do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Was there really any point in responding to that? I twirled my wrist, satisfaction settling inside me. Having somebody else touch this blade was like having somebody combing through my underwear drawer or something. Maybe even worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why you\u2019re always popping your wrist or wiggling it when you\u2019re worked up, isn\u2019t it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Staring at him, I held her at ready. \u201cAre you going to leave me alone or not? I\u2019ve still got reports to go through and I\u2019m tired.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s your range on calling it?\u201d He stood up, still eying the sword. \u201cAre there other weapons or is it just that one?\u201d<\/p>\n

As he took a step closer, I lifted her. \u201cPlease stay away.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought we had a truce,\u201d he murmured. A smile tugged at his lips.<\/p>\n

If I didn\u2019t know what a bastard he was, I might have almost believed the smile. \u201cDoesn\u2019t mean I want you getting close to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

He eyed the sword, then me. \u201cYou can\u2019t really hold it like that forever. I can just stand here until you lower it. All I want to do is talk, Kit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can hold it a lot longer than you might think.\u201d Memories of drills danced through my mind. Fanis had broken the bones in my forearm when I was eight because my guard got shaky. When the same thing happened at fourteen with a heavier weapon\u2014a battle-axe\u2014she\u2019d broken my right humerus and my collarbone. I knew how to hold my guard, and despite what he thought, I was stronger than humans.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you\u2019re going to stand there and have a pissing contest over nothing rather than an answer to a question?\u201d His smile widened and his gaze dropped, staring at my tits as though the close-fitting tank top wasn\u2019t even there. \u201cOkay. I\u2019ll just enjoy the view.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hissing, I lowered the blade and spun away.<\/p>\n

Spying a T-shirt thrown over a nearby chair, I grabbed it and stalked over to my bed. Once more, I kept it between us as I put the blade down. \u201cTake it again, and I\u2019ll just call it back,\u201d I said flatly, jerking the T-shirt on over my head.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t even have time to gasp for a breath.<\/p>\n

He was right there.<\/p>\n

A hand on my neck held me in place. Swearing, I flexed my wrist. \u201cGo ahead,\u201d he said, his voice gruff. \u201cI\u2019m not\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

I tensed as I felt his hand catch the hem of the shirt I\u2019d pulled on.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat in the holy hell happened to your back?\u201d<\/p>\n
