Lying there on the bed, curled around her, Joss was almost convinced that this was everything he\u2019d ever need.<\/p>\n

But when he leaned in to press his lips to her shoulder, those shields were still there. Still solid and cool and impenetrable. Sighing, he buried his face against her hair. \u201cWhy are you still shutting me out?\u201d<\/p>\n

She stroked a hand down his arm. \u201cIt\u2019s easier that way, lover,\u201d she murmured.<\/p>\n

\u201cEasier. Easier how?\u201d<\/p>\n

One silent moment stretched out into another, and then finally, she rose.<\/p>\n

Joss sat up, staring at her.<\/p>\n

He\u2019d wanted to make love to her again, but somehow, he didn\u2019t think that would be happening just yet. And soon, he had to figure out where Jones was, get his ass back on the job. But this first.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t really want me to stop shutting you out, Joss.\u201d Dru said rose from the bed.<\/p>\n

As she started to get dressed, he studied her. \u201cAnd why is that?\u201d<\/p>\n

A bitter smirk twisted her lips. \u201cBecause once you\u2019ve heard the entirety of what I\u2019ve had to do since I started working this job, you\u00a0.\u00a0.\u00a0.\u201d Her voice hitched. She paused in the middle of putting her bra on, pressing her lips together. She lowered her head, her shining dark hair falling to shield her expression.<\/p>\n

When she looked back at him, her expression was as remote, distant as the sun. \u201cYou won\u2019t want me anymore. I can tell you that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing could make that happen…\u201d<\/p>\n
