It&#8217;s completely stand-alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019d called, I would have been there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shay swallowed. \u201cI know you would have. But we\u2019re not together anymore, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes that mean you can\u2019t need a friend with you?\u201d He touched her shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>That light touch sent her heart skittering around in her chest, a mad little dance that made her breathless. Breathing was already difficult. Being near him made it so much worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not friends, though, are we, Elliot?\u201d she said quietly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo not dating means we can\u2019t be friends?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou didn\u2019t want to be friends.\u201d She hugged herself tightly and closed her eyes so he wouldn\u2019t see the truth in them. She couldn\u2019t handle being friends with him anyway. It would hurt too much. \u201cYou just wanted us to be over, remember? You said we were done. So we\u2019re done. Besides, I managed okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlways gotta be so tough, huh, Shay?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>No<\/em>. Miserable, she gave him her back and circled around the back edge of the store. She wasn\u2019t tough at all. She was miserable and lonely and she wished like hell she could be what he needed, give him what he wanted. She just didn\u2019t know <em>how<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>At the back of the store, she headed for the fantasy section, bypassing the romance. Once upon a time, it had been her first stop in the store.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA couple of your favorite writers had books out last week. Don\u2019t you want those?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not much into romance these days.\u201d Depressing as hell, reading about a happily-ever-after when it was painfully clear she wasn\u2019t very likely to find one. She\u2019d have to settle for a humdrum-ever-after. Besides, as grim and moody as she was these days, she found herself connecting to action or gore or violence better.<\/p>\n<p>Stopping in front of the shelves featuring the newest releases, she studied them, all too aware of Elliot standing at her back. \u201cYou\u2019ve probably got business to do, paperwork and all that crap. You can go back to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks for your permission,\u201d he murmured.<\/p>\n<p>A warm hand settled low on her back. As he bent his head, Shay shivered at the feel of him. <em>Damn it<\/em>. Coming in here had been a BFM. Big fucking mistake. She should have just waited in the car\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI miss you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Closing her eyes, she whispered, \u201cDon\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His lips brushed across the side of her brow. \u201cDon\u2019t what? Tell you that I miss you? Miss us?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUs?\u201d She laughed hollowly as she turned to face him. \u201cThere <em>is<\/em> no us, remember? You said that. There\u2019s <em>me<\/em>\u2026and there\u2019s <em>you<\/em>\u2026and sometimes we\u2019re together, but there\u2019s no <em>us<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His gaze held hers. \u201cI never wanted it to be that way. And maybe there was more of an <em>us<\/em> than I realized. Seeing you\u2026\u201d He paused, took a deep breath. \u201cSeeing you just drives that home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those intense, hypnotic eyes held hers. Her heart kicked up a few beats, stealing her breath away. As he started to dip his head, Shay stood there, frozen. <em>Shit.<\/em> <em>What now<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>His mouth, so warm, brushed against hers. She gasped and then almost wished she hadn\u2019t as he used that opportunity to tease the inside of her lips with his tongue, moving deeper and deeper. His hands came around her waist, tugging her closer.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a bad idea<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/stolen\/\">R<\/a>ead <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/stolen\/\">more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So far, STOLEN seems to be doing okay.
