(My opinion&#8230;<strong>No, no, no, no, no<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m bothered by a site that then gets upset with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/michelegormanwriter.blogspot.co.uk\/2012\/07\/should-bloggers-charge-for-reviews.html\" target=\"_blank\">author<\/a>\u00a0who blogged about it&#8230;heaven forbid people actually\u00a0<em>know<\/em> about stuff like that. \u00a0I&#8217;d think it should be discussed on the website that the reviews are are kinda bought and paid for, but hey.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all a very screwed up mess, and you can see the cache of it right about&#8230;HERE! \u00a0Yes, I saved a screencap. \u00a0(You should be able to click on it to read the whole thing&#8230;the author removed it but google cache&#8230;well. \u00a0The internet. \u00a0It&#8217;s forever.)<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Michele-Gorman-Should-bloggers-charge-for-reviews-.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-30153\" title=\"Michele Gorman  Should bloggers charge for reviews\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Michele-Gorman-Should-bloggers-charge-for-reviews--97x300.png?resize=97%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"97\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Michele-Gorman-Should-bloggers-charge-for-reviews-.png?resize=97%2C300&amp;ssl=1 97w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Michele-Gorman-Should-bloggers-charge-for-reviews-.png?zoom=2&amp;resize=97%2C300&amp;ssl=1 194w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Michele-Gorman-Should-bloggers-charge-for-reviews-.png?zoom=3&amp;resize=97%2C300&amp;ssl=1 291w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 97px) 100vw, 97px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To the newbie writers\/aspiring writers who read my blog:<\/p>\n<p><strong>DO NOT DO THIS SHIT. \u00a0DO NOT PAY FOR POSITIVE REVIEWS. \u00a0DO NOT DO IT DO NOT DO IT DO NOT DO IT. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Those\u00a0<em>negative<\/em>\u00a0<em>mean-girl reviews<\/em> that poop on the pony parade are not actually going to kill your career. \u00a0I promise you.<\/p>\n<p>FYI, opinions are expressed in this post-my blog, I&#8217;m allowed. \u00a0Before somebody decides to rant at me about defamation, they might want to read up on what defamation actually is&#8230;<em>Defamation of character&#8230;<\/em>tends to require\u00a0<em>intentionally false<\/em> statements.<\/p>\n<p>Jane (a real lawyer) over <a href=\"http:\/\/dearauthor.com\/news\/wednesday-news-chicklitgirls-charge-95-for-reviews-threaten-lawsuit-to-the-author-who-publicized-this-bn-goes-web-based-and-promises-new-screen-for-readers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dear Author<\/a> actually did a nice little breakdown of it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>~*~<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOW&#8230;<em>for the real<\/em><em> insanity&#8230;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because the Chicklit thing is just stupid, IMO, it&#8217;s not really\u00a0<em>insane<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s some crazy. \u00a0FYI&#8230;I&#8217;m not linking to the site. \u00a0Like others, I&#8217;d rather NOT give the idiots who created the site any more attention than they deserve. \u00a0Instead, I&#8217;m linking you to <a href=\"http:\/\/fozmeadows.wordpress.com\/2012\/07\/10\/bullying-goodreads\/\" target=\"_blank\">Foz Meadows<\/a>-Foz had done a pretty good run down on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, a small group of people decided they&#8217;d &#8216;had it&#8217; with the &#8216;bullying&#8217; on goodreads. \u00a0What is their version of bullying? \u00a0&#8220;Mean girls who write snarky reviews&#8221;. \u00a0(<strong><em>My opinion&#8230; this is BS. \u00a0Authors put out books for public consumption-they then face public opinion. \u00a0You want to write? \u00a0Deal with it. \u00a0It&#8217;s not always fun, but then again, who promised life was an easy ride?<\/em><\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>So, to &#8216;pay back&#8217; those who write these mean reviews, they have, in essence, started stalking them <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>(that&#8217;s how it appears, at least&#8230;they&#8217;ve &#8216;outed&#8217; people, posted personal details, including names and pictures and home towns)<\/em><\/strong><em><\/em> and they claim they are doing this to &#8216;speak up against bullies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yes, because the exact way to speak up against bullies is to cyber stalk.<\/p>\n<p>Carolyn Jewel has an <a href=\"http:\/\/carolynjewel.com\/wordpress\/2012\/07\/17\/speaking-up-and-out\/\" target=\"_blank\">awesome post<\/a> about her thoughts on this, and although I&#8217;ve spoken my mind on twitter, I felt moved to the same.<\/p>\n<p>In my mind, I have\u00a0<em>no doubt<\/em> that the people running the &#8216;bully&#8217; site are authors. \u00a0Nobody but writers are\u00a0<em>that<\/em> attached to their books. \u00a0Most of us, though, have a functioning brain stem and we realize that people are actually\u00a0<em>allowed<\/em> to form opinions, and hey, they can even\u00a0<em>hate<\/em> our work. \u00a0That doesn&#8217;t constitute a negative attack. \u00a0We get that.<\/p>\n<p>To those running the site?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cheezburger.com\/6436419328\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i.chzbgr.com\/completestore\/12\/7\/18\/OlEXxrCrwEq_JkZ-dlgnEw2.jpg?resize=500%2C376&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"376\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Am I concerned about the fact that people think it&#8217;s\u00a0<em>okay<\/em> to post personal information? \u00a0Yes. \u00a0I have young kids. \u00a0I protect\u00a0<em>them<\/em> by protecting\u00a0my privacy.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from that, I&#8217;ve had a few unpleasant encounters that I&#8217;d rather never have again and that I&#8217;m not going into detail about, but it&#8217;s enough that I decided early on I&#8217;d do better by protecting my privacy.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m horrified by anybody who thinks it&#8217;s okay to post somebody&#8217;s personal info out there. \u00a0Women are very often the targets of crazy-ass stalkers and they don&#8217;t have to do much of\u00a0<em>anything<\/em> to catch the attention of those crazy-ass stalkers. \u00a0FYI&#8230; they are\u00a0<em>crazy<\/em>. \u00a0They don&#8217;t need a reason to fixate.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m absolutely\u00a0<em>disgusted<\/em> by the shit taking place on that site.<\/p>\n<p>For my readers\/regular visitors, please do\u00a0<em>not<\/em> go to the site. \u00a0Please. \u00a0They are a bunch of attention-mongering haters and every click feeds their need. \u00a0You can get the run down very well at Foz&#8217;s site, but I did want to speak my mind on this. \u00a0Silence perpetuates bullying and what they are doing?
