{"id":29562,"date":"2012-04-26T08:00:03","date_gmt":"2012-04-26T12:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/?p=29562"},"modified":"2012-04-26T09:01:18","modified_gmt":"2012-04-26T13:01:18","slug":"i-love-this-scene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/2012\/04\/i-love-this-scene\/","title":{"rendered":"I love this scene&#8230; (IF YOU SEE HER&#8230; Kindle for UK)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m working on the edits for the UK version of <em>IF YOU SEE HER<\/em>&#8230;this mostly just included making sure the formatting is okay, but it must be done.<\/p>\n<p>I still love this scene. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 (FYI, if you haven&#8217;t read these books, there is no spoiler here, but please keep in mind, don&#8217;t try to read the Ash (<a title=\"The Ash Trilogy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/?page_id=27067\">link<\/a>) books out of order&#8230;start with <em>IF YOU HEAR HER<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IfYouSeeHer72dpi.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-29561\" title=\"If You See Her UK\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IfYouSeeHer72dpi-200x300.jpg?resize=200%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IfYouSeeHer72dpi.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.shilohwalker.com\/website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/IfYouSeeHer72dpi.jpg?w=432&amp;ssl=1 432w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that a polite way of telling me to leave?\u201d Remy said, lifting a golden brow.<\/p>\n<p>Hope swallowed, then bit her lip. \u201cActually, it wasn\u2019t much of an attempt to be polite\u2014I\u2019ve got some things to do and I\u2019m sure you have better things to do than stand around in here with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually&#8230;\u201d he looked down at the glass of tea he held in his hand, stared at it as though he found it fascinating. \u201cNow that you mention it, you\u2019re kind of the reason I came out here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her heart started racing, but this time it was fear. Oh, God.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019d said she wasn\u2019t going to be arrested, and for some reason, she did believe him. But that didn\u2019t mean he wanted somebody like her hanging around his town.<\/p>\n<p>She had already caused all sorts of trouble or at least, it seemed like it had followed her. Despite the fact that she\u2019d only been in town a few weeks, she already knew the kind of influence the Jennings family had around here. Was he here because&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHope?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Screw that, she thought, turning away from him once more. She poured her own tea and took a sip, slowly, deliberately. <em>You haven\u2019t done anything wrong. This is Law\u2019s home\u2014as long as he says you\u2019re welcome, you don\u2019t have to go anywhere<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, are you in there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shooting Remy a narrow look over her shoulder, she bit off, \u201cI\u2019m standing right here. Where else would I be?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turning around, she lifted her glass to her lips, took another drink of the tea. Her throat was still dry, burning tight, and her heart raced. But she was mad, and getting madder. Fed up, she realized.<\/p>\n<p>It had taken her almost fifteen years to find her stopping point, but damn it, she was sick and tired of being pushed around and if this slick lawyer thought he had any right&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy do you suddenly look so pissed off?\u201d Remy asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy?\u201d Hope asked slowly. She sat the glass down and then folded her arms over her chest, staring at him. \u201cWell, let me see. First I get arrested for something I didn\u2019t do. I get attacked. Nobody believed me when I said I didn\u2019t hurt Law, except Law, of course. Well, Law and a few other people. But that\u2019s beside the point. I didn\u2019t do a damn thing. And now you\u2019re out here harassing me. I didn\u2019t do a damn thing wrong and if you think you can make me leave your precious little town, you can shove it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Remy blinked. Then he passed a hand over his face and muttered something too low for her to hear. Finally, he looked back at her and said, \u201cOkay, exactly what have I done that you consider harassment, Hope? And when in the hell did I say anything about you leaving?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, why else would you be here?\u201d she demanded defensively. Spine rigid, she shoved off the counter and just barely resisted the urge to back away as he took a step toward her. \u201cIt\u2019s not like you and Law are best buds or something. Are you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d He snorted. \u201cUp until the past few weeks, I could hardly stand him, if you want the honest truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, then.\u201d Hope sniffed. That just proved he was too much an idiot to waste time on anyway. \u201cSee? You\u2019re not hanging out here to shoot the breeze with him, so the only other reason you\u2019d be here would be me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Remy blew out a slow breath. \u201cI\u2019m following that part of your logic, but I still fail to see why you automatically assume I\u2019m here because I\u2019m trying to run you out of town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat else would it be?\u201d She hunched her shoulders. \u201cUnless you lied about not wanting me arrested. It\u2019s the only thing that makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Remy closed his eyes and tried to figure out if he had ever heard a more convoluted line of thinking.<\/p>\n<p>He was pretty sure he had\u2014after all, he was a lawyer, he\u2019d heard some seriously inventive arguments.<\/p>\n<p>But this&#8230;Opening his eyes, he studied her heartshaped face. Without all that hair, she didn\u2019t look so fragile, he realized. Not that she really was, he was coming to realize. A fragile woman would have broken after what had been done to her. No matter what people thought, Hope hadn\u2019t broken. She had been forced to bend, to take unimaginable shit and heartbreak.<\/p>\n<p>But she hadn\u2019t broken.<\/p>\n<p>She had to be one of the strongest women he\u2019d ever met.<\/p>\n<p>Still, just looking at her flooded him with the most insane urges\u2014the need to protect her. The need to touch her. The need to fuck her. The need to see her laugh. To smile&#8230;at him.<\/p>\n<p>And she thought he was here because he wanted her out of town? His town? Like he owned the damned ground it was built on?<\/p>\n<p>Shit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not here because I\u2019m trying to run you out of town,\u201d he finally said, when he thought he might be able to say it in a somewhat level voice.<\/p>\n<p>With that doubt still glinting in her pale green eyes, she jerked one shoulder in a shrug . \u201cFine. Then whatever you\u2019re doing here, would you please just get it done? Please? So you can leave?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Something moved inside him. It might have been anger. Might have been wounded pride. Might have been frustration&#8230;or all of the above. \u201cJust get it over with?\u201d he repeated, some of his tension edging into his voice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes.\u201d She swallowed. \u201cPlease.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo polite. Even when you\u2019re that pissed off at me. Still so polite,\u201d he murmured. \u201cOkay, Hope. I\u2019ll get it over with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then he closed the two feet between them. He wanted to touch her&#8230;fuck it, he wanted it so bad, he hurt with it, ached with it, would have gone to his knees and begged if he thought it would have done any good.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he jammed one hand into a pocket, closed it in a fist.<\/p>\n<p>The other, he used the tip of his finger and used it to lift her chin.<\/p>\n<p>He had just a second to see her eyes flare wide before he dipped his head and brushed his mouth against hers.
