So. Well. Um. \u00a0I dunno what to say. \u00a0I’m on vacation and I spent half of a very beautiful drive messing with this crap, emailing Nicole (as much as I could with an iPhone) and searching (again, as much as I could.)<\/p>\n

I’m irritated. \u00a0Yes. \u00a0I’m baffled. \u00a0Yes. \u00a0This, plain and simply, confuses me.<\/p>\n

This isn’t writing.<\/p>\n

My 12 yr old knows this isn’t writing. \u00a0Granted, she also writes, maybe that’s why. \u00a0Okay, my 9 yr old gets it. Yes, I asked. \u00a0And yes, maybe it’s an unfair thing to throw up there since I drill it into their heads they are <\/span>not<\/em> to take somebody else’s work as their own.<\/p>\n

But writing is a creative endeavor. \u00a0 You take an idea, you put your own twist into it, your own energy, you make it your own. \u00a0That’s writing.<\/p>\n

This? \u00a0I dunno.<\/p>\n

It’s…well. \u00a0It’s nothing. \u00a0For her, at least. \u00a0She did no work. \u00a0She can’t claim credit for this-she doesn’t truly understand what it’s like to create a book and know she<\/em> did it. \u00a0When people read it and love it and tell her? \u00a0It’s not her<\/em> idea they love. \u00a0It’s mine. \u00a0So what is she getting? \u00a0A weird sort of attention, I guess. \u00a0And how sad is that?<\/p>\n

For those who don’t quite get<\/em> the idea of plagiarism, the definition:<\/p>\n

If you get confused and think…but you didn’t write the Grimm Fairy Tales, Shiloh<\/em>. First, many of the Grimm stories can be traced back a very long time. \u00a0Also, my books are based<\/em> on ideas from the Grimm. \u00a0But there’s no confusing my stories with<\/em> the Grimm. \u00a0I very clearly bastardized things and I’ve also given credit to the Brothers.<\/p>\n

This lady claimed she had written this ‘grimm’ series, that she had created this butt-kicking guardian angel, Gretta, Ryp, Wyll, etc, etc. \u00a0She didn’t. \u00a0I did.<\/p>\n

If a person wants to write and can’t see the difference, there is a problem. \u00a0She posted somewhere she was using other books as a guide. \u00a0A writer doesn’t use books as guides<\/em>. \u00a0A writer’s guide is her imagination. \u00a0If a writer doesn’t have that? \u00a0She’s not a writer. \u00a0(Or he.)<\/p>\n

Anyway. \u00a0I emailed bookrix. \u00a0I’ve emailed booksie. \u00a0I’ve contacted the legal departments at my pubs and yes, I’m putting this up on my blog because this isn’t the sort of thing I ignore. \u00a0I’ll also be dealing with the headaches of putting up google alerts for things like this in the future.<\/p>\n

I worked pretty damn hard on my books. \u00a0You want to be a writer? \u00a0Then write your own stories. \u00a0Leave my stuff alone.<\/p>\n

Update… BTW, I did hear from the woman. \u00a0She’s said she’ll stop and I’m hoping that’s the case. \u00a0I’m also hoping she’ll realize the difference between <\/span>creating<\/em> and\u00a0stealing<\/em>.<\/p>\n
