So… people want to know what this book is about.\u00a0 Really.\u00a0 Not just snippets.\u00a0 I still don’t have a blurb-I did, but it might changed a bit.\u00a0 Soooo…how about this instead.<\/p>\n

It’s an excerpt that sort of gets right to the whole point of the story.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, God,\u201d Lena whispered. Her heart slammed against her ribcage as she reached for the phone by her bed.<\/p>\n

There was another scream and she dropped the phone. Swearing, she crawled out of the bed, patting around on the floor. \u201cDamn it, damn it, damn it.\u201d Icy, cold sweat dripped along her spine as she listened through the window.<\/p>\n

Branches snapping in the night-dark trees. A ragged moan. Then all was silent.

\nWhere\u2019s the fricking phone?? <\/em><\/p>\n

Making a sound halfway between a sob and a growl, she stuck her hand under him the bed and heaved out a sigh of relief as her fingers brushed plastic. Scuttling across the floor, she pressed her back to the wall and listened, phone clutched in her hand.<\/p>\n

Nothing. She didn\u2019t hear anything\u2026wait.<\/p>\n

Quiet. Somebody quiet, now. Moving through the trees. If her room had been any farther away from the trees, if she had lived any closer to town\u2026hell, if she\u2019d had the radio playing, she never would have heard it. So, so quiet\u2026<\/p>\n

There was another short, sharp scream–one that ended all too abruptly.<\/p>\n

With her heart racing, Lena dialed nine-one-one. Puck made a rough sound low in his throat and nosed her leg. She patted the space next to her and as he pressed his big, furry body against her leg, she wrapped an arm around him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNine-one-one. What\u2019s your emergency?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2026I hear a woman screaming. She\u2019s screaming for help.\u201d<\/p>\n

It only took minutes. Maybe ten. Logically, she knew not much time had passed before she heard the sirens, but it seemed like an eternity. Too long. Too much time.<\/p>\n

She hadn\u2019t heard the woman again\u2026what if it was too late?<\/p>\n
