Do you know… this book was supposed to be out about two years ago?<\/p>\n

But I wasn’t ready. Because Nessa’s wasn’t ready.<\/p>\n

Then it was supposed to be out, I think, a year ago.<\/p>\n

But I wasn’t ready.\u00a0 Because she wasn’t ready.<\/p>\n

Finally, though, I was ready to write Nessa’s story.<\/p>\n

Because she was finally ready.<\/p>\n

And now she’s got a cover, too…<\/p>\n

So… whaddya think…?<\/p>\n

I love it.\u00a0 I love the way their hair is blowing, love the smirk on Nessa’s face.\u00a0 It’s so screw you<\/em>, which is totally her.\u00a0 I love the moon.\u00a0 FYI… the first pic? From Tuesday?\u00a0 The contest?\u00a0 It was the upper edge of the moon.\u00a0 I’ll draw a random winner from those who guessed the moon.<\/p>\n

And I think I should intro the hero…this is Dominic…and he hates heights.<\/p>\n

Dominic hated heights.<\/p>\n

He hated heights and he couldn\u2019t stand outside during the day, not even on a cloudy day. Unless he wanted to burn to a crisp. At least not yet. Few more decades, he might be able to handle it.<\/p>\n

But right now, he couldn\u2019t. And even if he could, he wouldn\u2019t be outside here. Nausea hit him and he knew where he was. Chicago. He\u2019d been to Chicago before and he\u2019d even been in the Sears tower\u2014no, the Willis Tower. They\u2019d renamed it. But he\u2019d been inside before. In the tower, not on top of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not really here now, either,\u201d he muttered, shooting a look at the sky.<\/p>\n

He was dreaming.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t even have to see her, didn\u2019t hear her voice to know he was dreaming. He just knew.<\/p>\n

He heard voices. Two of them\u2014both women. Although the voices sounded the same, they weren\u2019t. One was accented, with the crisp, lyrical sound of England, and the other was good old American with the slow, lazy drawl of the south.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy don\u2019t you just jump?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t jump because that would be too easy for you. Too easy for us both.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEasy\u2026what in the fuck do you care if it\u2019s easy for you? You want it over, so just end it already. Be done with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dominic felt his fangs throb in their sheaths, ready to emerge. His body tensed, ready to attack as he searched the rooftop for the other woman. He\u2019d kill the bitch\u2014whoever she was, taunting this woman to jump, he\u2019d kill her.<\/p>\n

But there was no other woman.<\/p>\n

Just the witch. Just his witch.<\/p>\n

Looking at her made him ache.<\/p>\n

It had been months since he\u2019d had held her\u2026even in his dreams. You\u2019d think a man\u2019s libido would kick in and he could at least have her in his dreams, but not lately.<\/p>\n

Not since the dream where she\u2019d stood crying in a field of stone.<\/p>\n

Since then, his dreams had taken a drastic turn and not a good one. Either he was reliving that dream where she held him as he died, or he was in these dreams where he was nothing more than an observer, watching as she drifted through life like a heartbroken ghost. Dreams where he couldn\u2019t touch her, couldn\u2019t hold her, couldn\u2019t talk to her.<\/p>\n

Because she wouldn\u2019t let him.<\/p>\n

She had isolated herself, even in her dreams.<\/p>\n

No\u2026not her dreams. They were his dreams.<\/p>\n

Whatever\u2026none of it made sense, and he couldn\u2019t try to make sense of it now, either, not when she was there.<\/p>\n

He wanted to go to her. Hold her, tell her she wasn\u2019t alone.<\/p>\n

He wanted to tell her to come away from the ledge, that she wasn\u2019t alone up there on the roof. That she wasn\u2019t alone, period. He was there\u2026he was with her.<\/p>\n

And then she wasn\u2019t alone, but Dominic wasn\u2019t the one standing just behind her.<\/p>\n

It was another vampire.<\/p>\n

Dominic couldn\u2019t reach out to the witch. Couldn\u2019t touch her, couldn\u2019t make her hear him if she spoke. Couldn\u2019t save her if she tried to jump.<\/p>\n

But the other vampire could.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t you let her jump, you big bastard<\/em>, he thought darkly.<\/p>\n

And still, in some part of his mind, he wondered why he was so worried about a dream-woman jumping off the Willis Tower. It wasn\u2019t like she was real. It wasn\u2019t like it would hurt her. The next time he\u2019d slept, she\u2019d be there\u2026waiting for him. In his dreams. Only in his dreams.<\/p>\n

Not if she jumps,<\/em> he thought.<\/p>\n

If she jumps, I\u2019ve lost her.<\/em><\/p>\n

He knew it. If she jumped, she was lost to him. He knew it\u2026somehow.<\/p>\n
