\"Cocksure\"Sabrina<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s the cockiest bastard I\u2019ve ever met and I mean that with all the affection and adoration in the world.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been in love with him for years, and not just because of those intense blue eyes or that slow smug smile that promises to make all your dreams come true. I\u2019ve seen what lies under that smile and his cocksure attitude. It\u2019s enough to make me melt.<\/p>\n

Not that I\u2019d ever let him know.\u00a0 Not\u00a0only<\/em>\u00a0is Luke Cochran one of Hollywood\u2019s up-and-coming movie stars\u2026he\u2019s also my boss.\u00a0 I\u2019m his personal assistant and have seen all the women who come and go in his life.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t even hold a candle.\u00a0 But a girl can dream\u2026right?<\/p>\n

Sabrina is one of the sharpest, funniest, kindest people I\u2019ve ever met. Sometimes, I think I\u2019m taking advantage of her, but I seriously cannot cope with my hectic lifestyle without her to keep me on track.<\/p>\n

Of course, my life just got totally knocked\u00a0off<\/em>\u00a0track.\u00a0 One of my sisters called.<\/p>\n

They need me back home. My mother is sick and the last thing I can think about is the promotional tour I\u2019ve got coming up.<\/p>\n

Sabrina\u2019s coming with me.\u00a0 She\u2019s the only person who can keep me focused and centered in a time like this. Besides, my family\u00a0adores<\/em>\u00a0her. And it\u2019s just a quick visit. My mother is tough.\u00a0 She\u2019ll be alright.<\/p>\n

But then something happens that knocks me for a loop and when my mother tells me that all she really wants in life is to see her kids happy and settled down, I do the stupidest damn thing\u00a0ever<\/em>\u00a0and announce that Sabrina and I are in love.<\/p>\n

Now I\u2019ve just got to convince my best friend to play along with me and act like she\u2019s my fianc\u00e9e and we\u2019re stupid in love.<\/p>\n

No big deal\u2026right?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not quite sure how<\/em> it happened, but we knocked hands. The glass she\u2019d been holding in the other wobbled, then fell.\u00a0 It hit the counter, bounced off then fell to the Italian marble floor where it shattered into a million pieces.<\/p>\n

And Sabrina stood there in her bare feet.<\/p>\n

One thing I\u2019d learned about Sabrina was that if she was comfortable, those shoes came right off.\u00a0 I\u2019d gotten used to see her pace around my office or Kelly\u2019s sans shoes as she discussed some scheduling point or suggested a certain charity event.<\/p>\n

Now her feet were surrounded by shards of glass.<\/p>\n

Without thinking, I stepped closer and caught her around the waist, then swung her up into my arms.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuke!\u201d\u00a0 She shoved at my shoulders. \u201cPut me down!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSure.\u00a0 After we get you out of the pile of glass.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re going to break your back, carrying me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The absurdity of the thought made me laugh and I looked at her face as I lowered her onto the stool I\u2019d just vacated.\u00a0 Her cheeks were flushed, eyes overbright.<\/p>\n

My laughter faded. I couldn\u2019t even remember what had brought it on as I stared down at her.<\/p>\n

Her breathing hitched.<\/p>\n

That was what did it.<\/p>\n

That little catch in her breathing, as she sucked in a broken gasp of air was what did me in.\u00a0 It was like she wasn\u2019t just drawing in air, but me, too. I didn\u2019t stop to question the urge or myself or anything as I cupped her face in my hands and lowered my mouth to hers.<\/p>\n

She tasted like citrus, the tart flavor of the lemonade sweeter than anything I could remember in recent history.\u00a0 I stroked my tongue into her mouth, already thirsty for more.<\/p>\n

She sat there, all but frozen and just when I\u2019d managed to convince myself to stop, she suddenly came to life.\u00a0 It was like a flashfire had enveloped her\u2014and me. Heat sprang up between us. She curled her arms around my neck and opened for me.<\/p>\n

I shifted closer, bumping into her knees. She spread them wider and I caught her around the hips, dragging her to the edge of the stool.<\/p>\n

She moaned.<\/p>\n

The sound of it was heady, almost intoxicating.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoa. Whoa, man\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The sound of the voice didn\u2019t connect at first.<\/p>\n

When it did, I decided then and there that the next possible chance I had to kick my brother\u2019s ass, I\u2019d do it.<\/p>\n

Because Words Belong to Everybody<\/h1>\n

This all seems a little…cocky, doesn’t it?<\/p>\n

Some of you might be wondering what the cock is going on with this book, and yes…this book did come about because of a certain incident in which an author attempted to trademark a commonly used word…”Cocky”.<\/p>\n

It was a big dust-up and as often happens with writers, the whole debacle inspired a story, this one. Read how it came about here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
