Shit, what had he expected, that she\u2019d believed him? And why in the hell was he so angry? Jack didn\u2019t know, but he was beyond furious. Beyond pissed and he unloaded on the heavy bag with unrestrained rage. He\u2019d been pounding away for damn near an hour and his arms felt like lead, but he couldn\u2019t stop.<\/p>\n

Yeah, probably seemed easier to think he was lying than to consider he might be telling the truth, he supposed.<\/p>\n

Abruptly, he realized he wasn\u2019t alone.<\/p>\n

Without looking at her, he said, \u201cDo us both a favor and just get the hell out of my house, princess.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of these days, you\u2019ll get the point when I tell you not to call me that,\u201d she said, sighing. But the heat was missing from her voice. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not leaving. In case you haven\u2019t figured it out, I\u2019m here for a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah? You mean other than pissing me off?\u201d He landed one last punch on the bag and then turned to stare at her. Sweat dripped into his eyes, stinging them. He stalked over to the edge of the workout area he had installed in his garage, grabbed the towel and wiped his face off.<\/p>\n

Perci remained quiet. He shot her a glance and immediately wished he hadn\u2019t. The look in those dark brown eyes was enough to lay him low.<\/p>\n

Fuck\u2026that hunger just might stop his heart.<\/p>\n

He choked back a groan and looked away, throwing the towel down. Bracing his hands on the unpainted concrete wall, he bowed his head and closed his eyes. Don\u2019t look at her. She can\u2019t read emotion\u2014just pain, and seriously, having your dick tied into a knot isn\u2019t <\/em>real pain. Is it?<\/em><\/p>\n

He heard the heavy bag\u2019s chain rustle and he looked back, saw her standing next to it, watched as she stroked one hand down the worn leather.<\/p>\n

He wanted to see that hand stroking something else.<\/p>\n

Fuck, fuck, fuck<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She needed to get the hell out of here.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou and me both know you would knock that thing clear off the chain in one punch,\u201d he said. He smirked at her. \u201cAnd although I really don\u2019t need to coddle my ego, I\u2019d just as soon not watch a woman bust the bag. So let\u2019s just not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perci smiled at him. Then, quicker than he could even track, she moved. That long, slender body moved up in the air, she kicked\u2014jumping back kick, he thought, but damn she was fast. The bag went flying\u2026and stayed on the chain. She caught it on the first backswing and smiled at him. \u201cI know how to pull it. We learn that early on. Control. It\u2019s important.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cConsidering you could probably break me in half? Yeah. Important.\u201d He tried another tactic. \u201cI need a shower. So if you\u2019re not going to get the hell out, can we chat when I\u2019m done, princess?\u201d<\/p>\n

Her lashes flickered over dark eyes and he sauntered over to her, reached up. He trailed one finger along her jaw line, watched as her eyes closed, as a breath shuddered out of her. \u201cUnless you want to join me. Want to wash my back, princess?\u201d<\/p>\n

Her lashes lifted and she stared at him, her gaze hot, heavy\u2026and so fucking hungry.<\/p>\n

Backfire<\/em>.<\/p>\n

His mind started to screech a warning as she closed the scant distance between them. \u201cSure, slick. I\u2019ll wash your back\u2026after.\u201d Then she reached up, curled a hand around the back of his neck and pulled his head down to hers.<\/p>\n
