Instead of telling him she didn\u2019t want to, she sighed and wrapped her hand around the bed railing.\u00a0 She already knew she was ridiculously weak.\u00a0 Things had explained to her and she was trying to wrap her head around everything.\u00a0 She\u2019d been in a wreck.\u00a0 She\u2019d hit her head.\u00a0 She\u2019d been in a comatose state for seven days and sometime during the night, she\u2019d started showing signs of reviving.\u00a0 She\u2019d been awake for\u2026how long? She didn\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

She wanted to get up.<\/p>\n

She wanted to walk.<\/p>\n

She wanted something more than the ice chips they\u2019d given her, but any time she asked for water, they said they needed to finish the assessment first.\u00a0 If she heard that A<\/em> word one more time, she had an A<\/em> word for them\u2026as in kiss my A-S-S<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She sat up\u2014or tried\u2014and her body protested the movement.\u00a0 The nurse, a kind, older woman came to help steady her until she had her balance. Once she was mostly upright, the doctor studied her for a moment and then nodded, pleased.\u00a0 \u201cYour motor skills are coming along nicely, almost like you napped for the week.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels like longer,\u201d she rasped.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll get your strength back.\u201d<\/p>\n

She wanted to ask if everything else<\/em> would come back.\u00a0 But she was afraid.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey!\u201d<\/p>\n

She lifted her head up at the sharp sound of the nurse\u2019s voice.\u00a0 Her heart started to pound at the sight of the man in the door.\u00a0 Tall and broad, his face brushed with stubble and a mouth that fell slightly open at the sight of her.\u00a0 That was fine, because she seemed to have trouble closing hers just then.<\/p>\n

He was\u2026wow.<\/p>\n

He had a powerful face, framed by vivid red hair.\u00a0 That hair was disheveled, making her wonder if he knew what the idea of a comb<\/em> was. But even as she thought it, she had the image of him driving a big, long-fingered hand through that hair.<\/p>\n

Green eyes.\u00a0 Such brilliant green eyes.\u00a0 He stared at her and she felt the punch of his gaze like he\u2019d reached out and touched her.\u00a0 Images swam through her head.<\/p>\n

Then the nurse was standing between them.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you mind, Mr. McKay!\u201d she snapped, shoving him back out into the hall and slamming the door.\u00a0 \u201cThat boy, I swear.\u00a0 Ms. Parker, I\u2019m so sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBrannon,\u201d she said softly.<\/p>\n

The doctor\u2019s head whipped up to hers and the stethoscope he\u2019d had on her back fell away.\u00a0 \u201cYou remember him?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah swayed on the edge of the bed and the doctor had to steady her.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis name.\u201d\u00a0 She laughed weakly.\u00a0 \u201cI don\u2019t remember mine<\/em>, but I remember his.\u00a0 Can you explain that to me?\u201d<\/p>\n
