Neve McKay<\/p>\n

Neve left home ten years ago, determined to chase her dreams and prove to herself to her brother, her sister and the whole damn town of McKay’s Ferry. The spoiled youngest child of the town patriarchs, Neve was viewed by all as the pampered princess and more than a little out of control. <\/em><\/p>\n

But leaving town didn’t make it her life any easier. \u00a0It just got a whole lot worse. A decade later, she returns, her life a mess and her dreams in pieces.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ian Campbell<\/p>\n

Best friends with the only male of the McKay clan, Ian came across the pond to manage the rennovated pub known as Treasure Island. \u00a0When a tall, slim redhead comes into his place, the big Scot’s heart starts to race…then it stops once he realizes who she\u00a0is.<\/em><\/p>\n

Headed For Trouble<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been to Scotland,\u201d she murmured, turning her head to meet his eyes. \u201cDo you know . . . I can count on one hand how many times I saw a man wearing a kilt while I was there.\u201d<\/p>\n

A grin split his face. \u201cIs that a fact?\u201d He leaned in and nuzzled her neck.<\/p>\n

It sent shivers of sensation running through her. She angled her head, whimpering in satisfaction when he followed her cue and raked his teeth down her skin.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a fact,\u201d she agreed. Her breaths sounded ragged even to her own ears. \u201cSince none of them looked as good in one as you do, I\u2019ve decided not to smirk over the fact that you\u2019re wearing one in a pub called Treasure Island.\u201d<\/p>\n

He laughed, the sound low and husky. \u201cIt\u2019s a terrible name for a pub, Scottish or no. And I\u2019ll thank you for not laughing.\u201d He caught her earlobe, bit lightly. \u201cI don\u2019t think my pride could handle it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brannon McKay<\/p>\n

The middle child and the only male, Brannon is both the peace-keeper and the protector. \u00a0Easier to laugh than his sisters, he likes his toys–aka cars that cost a mint and projects *think bookstores or rennovating apartments*–and he gets bored easily. He’s slow to anger, but his temper, once sparked, is legendary. \u00a0He can’t seem to keep his eyes off Hannah Parker, his kid sister’s old friend, but damned if he’ll get involved. He knows too well how fleeting happiness is.<\/p>\n

Hannah Parker<\/p>\n

In high school, Hannah was a heavyset, quiet girl who adored Neve McKay. \u00a0Odd friends, the shy girl and the boisterous troublemaker were close and only Neve knew Hannah’s deepest secret–a soul-deep need for the sexy, wicked Brannon McKay. Ten years have passed and Hannah’s not the quiet girl who once hid in the shadows any more. As a matter of fact, she’s not much for hiding at\u00a0all<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Trouble With Temptation<\/span><\/p>\n

In the back of her mind, she heard the echo of his voice\u2026wake up, come back to me\u2026I\u2019m\u00a0 sorry<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She knew he\u2019d come to see her in the hospital.\u00a0 People told her that he\u2019d been there.\u00a0 Every day.\u00a0 One of the nurses, Jenny, she\u2019d said he read to her.\u00a0 He\u2019d read Jude Deveraux\u2019s Velvet Song<\/em> to her.\u00a0 The first romance Hannah had ever read and she was on her third copy of it.\u00a0 He\u2019d found her dog-eared copy and brought it to her, read it to her while a cop stood on duty outside her room.<\/p>\n

A crazy urge drove her and before he could pull back, she turned her face toward his, lifting her mouth before he moved away.\u00a0 Twisting her head around, she reached for him, fisting her hand in the collar of his shirt and dragging him closer.\u00a0\u00a0 He didn\u2019t move as she pressed her mouth to his.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re going to drive me crazy, Brannon,\u201d she said against his lips.<\/p>\n

Moira McKay<\/p>\n

Twenty years ago, Moira McKay had it all. \u00a0She was the oldest daughter of the powerful McKay family and about to start college. \u00a0She was in love with the bad boy, Gideon Marshall…and he loved her back. \u00a0Then her parents were killed in a car crash and she was left to raise her brother and sister as well as take over the family dynasty–not to mention finish school. \u00a0It broke her heart to do it, but she said good-bye to the boy she loved.<\/p>\n

That boy is now the chief of police and he’s also the man who never stopped loving her. \u00a0More than once, he’s lain awake at night, wondering how he ever got so tangled up in the McKays. \u00a0The youngest is like his baby sister, a girl he found sobbing the night her parents died. \u00a0Brannon is like his brother…and Moira has owned his heart since he was fourteen. \u00a0He stood by and watched her get married, stood by and watched her get divorced and he’s stood by while she lived her life without him. He’s finally accepted that it’s time to move on…to take what’s left of his heart and leave. He knows Moira loves him, but sometimes love just isn’t enough.<\/p>\n

The Right Kind of Trouble<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re just going to walk away again, Moira\u2026don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

He put her down and started to pace.\u00a0 Moira wanted to go to him, but what was she supposed to do?\u00a0 Pantomime what she was feeling?\u00a0 She\u2019d already tried to show<\/em> him and that wasn\u2019t working.<\/p>\n

A muttered curse caught her ears and she looked up just as he spun to face her, rage written all over his normally calm features. \u201cYou\u2019re killing me inside, okay?\u00a0 You\u2019re\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Then he stopped, his cheeks puffing out as he blew out a slow breath.\u00a0 He drew in a deeper, slower one, holding it for a few seconds.\u00a0 She opened her mouth, but he lifted a hand.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t asking her, though.\u00a0 The question was directed inward.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, you can\u2019t even talk,\u201d he said, still not facing her.\u00a0 \u201cYou can\u2019t explain what\u2019s going on and I can\u2019t see inside your head.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what you want\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

She reached for the buttons on her shirt.\u00a0 He\u2019d never leave without looking back at her one last time.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t think.<\/p>\n

But then again, she\u2019d messed up something awful.<\/p>\n

Maybe this wasn\u2019t the right way to tell him, but there were a hundred wrong <\/em>ways to let him leave.\u00a0 And that was without trying again.\u00a0 Without reaching out, the way he\u2019d done a hundred times.<\/p>\n

She shrugged out of her shirt while he was still standing there.\u00a0 Her bra fell away next.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re feeling better, we\u2019ll have to talk any\u2026Moira.\u201d<\/p>\n

She looked at him through the fringe of her hair.\u00a0 He\u2019d turned around.<\/p>\n

She found no pleasure in knowing she\u2019d been right.\u00a0 She was manipulating him and she hated herself, but if this would keep him here, with her, a little longer, until she could convince him she was tired of running, tired of pushing away?<\/p>\n

Then she was going for it.<\/p>\n

When she reached for the button of her jeans, her fingers shook.<\/p>\n

Gideon was staring at her, his chest rising and falling in a harsh rhythm.\u00a0 She thought maybe that if she reached out just then, he might have turned and walked out. So she just pushed her jeans down her thighs, along with her panties.<\/p>\n

Naked now, she stood there waiting.\u00a0 She figured this was best.\u00a0 If he turned around rejected her while she was naked, vulnerable, maybe it would even the scales.<\/p>\n

The old wooden boards of the floor creaked a little as he took one step, then another toward her.\u00a0 She licked her lips, hardly daring to breathe.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd what about tomorrow, Mac?\u201d he asked.\u00a0 \u201cYou going to push me away\u2026again<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n

She saw the answer he thought to be true in his eyes.<\/p>\n

Slowly, she shook her head.<\/p>\n

\u201cMac?\u201d<\/p>\n

She held out her hand.<\/p>\n

For the longest time, he didn\u2019t move.<\/p>\n

Then he did\u2014toward her.<\/p>\n
