Money, charm, looks, personality\u2026and the perfect boyfriend to boot. Then Del disappeared to \u2018study abroad\u2019, giving no warning to friends or even Blake, that aforementioned perfect boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s back now, and not just to celebrate what would have been her ten-year high school reunion.<\/p>\n<p>Del\u2019s come to face down her monsters once and for all\u2026and to see Blake Mitchell, the man she never stopped loving.<\/p>\n<p>But Blake isn\u2019t the boy she left behind. Twelve years can change a man, and not just because he spent twelve years wondering about her, worrying about her\u2026missing her.<\/p>\n<p>Still, as he looks into Del\u2019s eyes, he doesn\u2019t see the smooth, polished world traveler he would have expected. Rather, she\u2019s quieter, darker, sadder and she carries herself in a way that says she\u2019s ready for fight or flight. It\u2019s a look he\u2019s seen before, too. Why don\u2019t you make it up to me now?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The smile that curved her lips up hit in the chest with the force of sledgehammer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI\u2019d love to.\u201d He led her out onto the dance floor and guided her hands, first one, then the other up to his shoulders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">From the speakers, Garth Brooks sang a song about unanswered prayers. Blake wasn\u2019t much for praying. Back before he\u2019d stopped asking God for anything, though, this had been a regular prayer\u2014having this woman back in his arms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Maybe unanswered prayers weren\u2019t the only thing to thank God for. At that moment, Blake was grateful for the answer to a prayer that had been a long time coming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Del moved against him awkwardly at first, her body tense, but bit by bit, she relaxed. \u201cSo did you miss me at your senior prom?\u201d she asked, cuddling against him just like she used to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lowering his head, he brushed a kiss against her cheek. He breathed in the soft, warm scent of her and managed to stifle his moan\u2014just barely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His voice was hoarse as he told her, \u201cNot a bit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tipping her head back, she asked, \u201cNot even a little?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cNope.\u201d Then he smiled and confessed, \u201cI didn\u2019t go.\u201d Cupping a hand over the back of her head, he eased her back against him. \u201cWasn\u2019t interested.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Through the thin silk of her dress, he could feel the heat of her body and it was killing him. He could feel the soft, sweet weight of her breasts, the flat planes of her belly. His left hand rested at the small of her back and he was almost painfully aware of the rounded curve of her ass.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nuzzling her neck, he murmured, \u201cDid you miss your prom?\u201d Against his chest, Del smiled. \u201cI missed half of my junior year and almost all of my senior year. The only prom I went to was your junior prom.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Blake stroked a hand up her back. \u201cThen we have quite a few dances to catch up, don\u2019t we? You think you can close your eyes and pretend you\u2019re wearing some sexy little formal number and I\u2019ve got my James Bond attire on? We can pretend there\u2019s some half-assed wedding-type band on the stage and we\u2019re going to dance just a few dances before we slip out to find someplace to go neck.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cHmmmm.\u201d Her gaze dropped to his lips. \u201cNecking, huh?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cYeah. Remember that junior prom? You had a pretty green dress on. Almost the same color as your eyes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She laughed.\u00a0\u201cThat wasn\u2019t the prom, sugar. It was the dinner dance at the country club.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He shrugged. \u201cProm. Dinner dance. I had to wear a monkey suit for both of them, but it was worth it to see you. If the green dress was the dinner dance, then that pink number\u2014it was the prom, right?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Del nodded. The pink number, as Blake called it, had been a designer dress she\u2019d bought from a boutique in Lexington. Her breath hitched a little as she remembered that night. He\u2019d peeled her out of her dress and if a county sheriff hadn\u2019t shown up, he would have had her out of the strapless bra and her panties before too long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He cupped the back of her head, arching her head up to look at him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His lids were low, giving him a sleepy-eyed look as he murmured, \u201cYeah, that was prom, all right.\u201d A wicked light entered his eyes. \u201cThat was the night I got to see the princess of Prescott wearing nothing but a lacy pink bra and lacy pink panties.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She felt her face burn and knew she must be blushing to the roots of her hair. \u201cThat was the night you stole those pink lace panties and wouldn\u2019t give them back.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He grinned at her and bent down, pressing a quick, light kiss to her lips that set her blood to a slow boil. \u201cYeah\u2026you\u2019re right.\u201d Pressing his lips to her ear, Blake murmured, \u201cCan I tell you a secret\u2026I still have them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A startled, embarrassed laugh escaped her. \u201cYou do not.\u201d Then she pulled away and looked at him. \u201cDo you?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">With a grin crooking his lips, he shrugged. \u201cThat\u2019s kind of a pathetic thing to lie about, holding on to some pink silk panties for more than twelve years.\u201d He brushed his fingers across her lower lip. \u201cI also kept all the letters you sent me that summer while I was gone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A harsh look tightened his face and he glanced around. He grabbed her hand and guided her off the dance floor and out the open doors that led to the patio. It wasn\u2019t much quieter out there and he led her past the groups of laughing people into the gardens just beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It was darker out there, away from the lights of the patio, and quieter. From there, the sounds of the music were distant and faint. \u201cI wish you would have said something, Dee\u2014Del,\u201d he corrected himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She pressed a fingertip to his lips. \u201cYou can call me whatever you want, Blake.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He caught her hand in his wrist and pressed a kiss to her palm. \u201cI kept those letters, Dee. I\u2019ve read them so many times they\u2019re practically falling apart.
