Vanya has been hunting and killing demons ever since one of them scarred her face and killed her sister. Correction\u2014since she was forced to kill the demon\u00a0possessing her sister.<\/em><\/p>\n

Then some sort of angel offers her a deal she can\u2019t refuse\u2014that if she becomes one of them, she gets to kill even more demons. Tonight, she\u2019s made that choice. The death she smells on the air will be her own\u2014and she welcomes it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Silence feels a darkness is looming. Change\u2014something he has every reason not to welcome. The deeply hidden memories that robbed him of his past, of his own name, render him unfit to teach anyone the ways of the Grimm. Yet here he is in the dankest sex club in town, waiting to assume his charge\u2014after he stands by and watches her die.<\/em><\/p>\n

When Vanya awakes, their complicated, dangerous dance begins. And so does something else\u2014a searing need that blisters along their unexpected mental connection. Silence shouldn\u2019t be drawn to his student, but once they touch, he can\u2019t think of a reason to stop. Even though acting out their darkest desires puts them in more danger than they realize.<\/em><\/p>\n

Silence hadn\u2019t responded\u2014it was as though he hadn\u2019t heard her.<\/p>\n

It was there between them the next morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo maybe if you\u2019re going to tell a guy you love him, you shouldn\u2019t blurt it out after a bout of rough sex, huh? Or maybe you shouldn\u2019t blurt it out after sex, period.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vanya figured there might have been a better way to broach the subject, but she was tired of it lingering there between them. She wanted it dealt with.<\/p>\n

Silence, though, he didn\u2019t seem to want to deal with anything. He looked up from the axe he was polishing, let their gazes meet for just a minute. Then he focused on the blade again.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nothing that happened between us last night that you need to worry about.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHow about the fact that I said I think I\u2019m falling in love with you? And the fact that it\u2019s wigging you out?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not wigging out,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>he replied.\u00a0\u201cAnd you are not falling in love with me. You\u2019re young and\u2014\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Vanya narrowed her eyes. \u201cDon\u2019t,\u201d she said quietly, shoving back from the table.<\/p>\n

He shifted his gaze back to her.\u00a0\u201cDon\u2019t what?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t tell me what I feel,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m old enough to decide I can die so I become one of you, and I\u2019m old enough to decide I can have kinky sex, and I\u2019m old enough to know if I\u2019m falling in love or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Irritated and humiliated, she stood and turned away.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t have to return her feelings. Damn it, she hadn\u2019t expected him to. But he sure as hell didn\u2019t have to be so damned patronizing, either.<\/p>\n

\u201cVanya\u2014\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In the doorway, she paused, looking at him over her shoulder.<\/p>\n

Just looking at him made her heart clench. Just looking at him made her heart\u00a0hurt<\/em>, in a good way, though. It also made her body ache and hunger and throb. She\u2019d hesitated before getting up this morning, and not because she\u2019d blurted out something so embarrassing. But because she\u2019d worried she\u2019d feel self-conscious about what had happened. She hadn\u2019t, though.<\/p>\n

She\u2019d stood in the doorway, staring at him.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until he\u2019d looked at her that she became aware of uncomfortable silence caused by what she\u2019d said\u2026yeah,\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0made things awkward.<\/p>\n

Staring into his eyes, she knew she hadn\u2019t been lying last night. If anything, she hadn\u2019t been clear enough. She wasn\u2019t\u00a0falling<\/em>\u00a0in love with him. She was in love with him. She\u2019d been falling in love with him bit by bit, day by day, and she\u2019d known it\u00a0before<\/em>\u00a0he\u2019d brought to life hot, dirty dreams she hadn\u2019t even known she had.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know how I feel, Silence. If you don\u2019t like it, fine. You don\u2019t need to like it, and I\u2019m not expecting you to feel the same way, but don\u2019t tell me I don\u2019t know what I feel,\u201d she said quietly.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re young. You\u2019re adjusting to a new life, and right now, I\u2019m all you know\u2014\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

She narrowed her eyes. \u201cOh, bite me.\u201d<\/p>\n
