Shhh… secret release… well, no. Deadly Desires

Kindle

So… Larissa, Stephanie and I sorta went and snuck this one out.

DeadlyDesires72dpi

These titles were previously released in one of the Mammoth collections.

They have been expanded and revised for the digital release.

Worlds collide as three bestselling authors deliver two tales of danger, suspense, and steamy encounters.

Don’t Walk Away

by Shiloh Walker

Ten years ago, former Army Ranger Ethan Raintree made one hell of choice…keep on lying, or tell the woman he loved the truth. He decided to tell the truth, and she threw him out of her life. He never stopped loving her, not stopped wanting her. Celeste Harper finally had everything she wanted—or so she thought. She’d escaped her past. She’d escaped her demons. But she couldn’t escape herself…or the man she’d left behind all those years ago. Looking into his eyes ten years later, she realizes it’s her turn to make a choice—let go of that pain and take him back. Or walk away…and face a future without him.

Code Word: Storm

by Sydney Croft

The extremely secret Agency for Covert Rare Operatives is the only thing that stands between the human race and complete chaos. Now, two agents with special abilities, Annika Svenson and Creed McCabe, are sent to stop a man who has harnessed the power of the supernatural world. But Creed and Annika have a history that puts them at odds — and in closer, hotter contact than they’d like. In this ACRO story, which falls in the series timeline between Riding the Storm and Unleashing the Storm, Annika and Creed grow closer, despite their resistance. And with their lives are on the line, they find they must not only work together, but be together, or risk a terrifying fate that could consume them both…

Amazon | BN  | ARe | Smashwords

These two short stories contain hot guys, determined women and some sexiness. Please note…they have been previously published, but we did add some new material.

Soooo… the original plan was that we would get it up for pre-order and all that jazz, and then I thought maybe I’d try to get it up for RT…and then…um.  Well.  Best laid plans never work well for us, it seems.

Instead, hey!  We haz book.

Please note, these two stories are not new.  They have been previously released but we did expand them a little.

DUE TO CONFUSION, THIS IS NO LONGER TAKING PLACE. THERE WILL BE A CONTEST TOMORROW, HOWEVER.

Since we didn’t do the whole promo shebang, I’m asking you all for some help.

  • The first fifteen bloggers who post about the book will receive a free download of the book.
  • How?  Just blog about it.  Come back here.  Post the link.
  • If you’re one of the first fifteen, you get the book. Easy, yeah?

Kobo, Sony, iBookstore, etc are coming.  Can’t give dates as that depends on when they get the titles uploaded.  Thanks!

The definition of success

Kindle

A workshop I attended…

 Author Unknown tells Supercool Author:

You’ve been my idol.  You did everything I wanted to do.  Tell me…how can I avoid making the mistakes you made…your career just tanked.

At this, I just kinda gaped.

Because Supercool Author has the kind of career that makes me starry-eyed. A movie made after her books.  She’s mega cool.  Yeah, yeah, sometimes we perceive things to be bigger or different than they are, but she’s still an author I’d call a success.

Author unknown has set the bar for success at hitting a list.

I haven’t hit a list yet.  I’m wondering…will I?

I’ve been doing this for a while now. I see shit that happens behind those names.

I’ve known authors who put on a happy, smiling face while secretly they have families who don’t support them.  They have husbands who try to force them to walk away from a career they wanted.  They have significant others who do not care about the things that make them happy.

They hit lists…. and ten years later, you see their books in the remainder bin at the dollar store and are they still writing?

I see authors in dollar store bin all the time…USA TODAY BESTSELLER…and the names ring nothing on my mental scale.

I see MEGA BESTSELLING AUTHORS who treat their readers like shit and walk all over the people who helped them get where they are.  Because nobody does it alone.

Does all of that add up to success?  How successful are you if you’re full of spite?  How successful are you if you have nobody to truly share it with at the end of the day?

This author who supposedly tanked?  She’s funny.  She’s sweet.  She’s genuine and kind.  She’s happily married and she’s got kids she loves.  And she’s able to pursue a career she loves with the support of her family.  Regarding her career, people know her name.  She has readers who know her and love her and support her.

That is success.

I was talking to my husband about all of this the other night, and damn it, I want that list thing. So bad.  I want it so bad I can taste it, and I’m not giving it up.

But… I have a guy who tells me this, in a matter of fact way.

You’re doing what you want.  It’s all you ever wanted to do with your life and you’re doing it.

I’m married to my high school sweetheart.

We have three beautiful kids.

I have a family who loves me.  A husband who supports me.  He doesn’t see my writing as a hobby and he doesn’t mock it, make light of it…and when it did get big for me? He didn’t try to take from me or make it seem like it was something he’d done for me.  It’s mine…I worked for it and he’s happy for me and he’s proud of me.  He’s there for me and he supports me and it’s the most amazing gift.  I pity women who don’t have that.  I’ve got three kids who think it’s pretty damn cool to have a mom who tells stories for a living.

And I’m a storyteller.  That’s all I ever wanted to be when I grew up…a storyteller.

I’ll define what is my own vision is.

Am I successful?

Damn straight.

Her Wildest Dreams 25% off at EC this week

Kindle

This is one of my older books, very erotic, handcuffs and dirty stuff and sexy times.

It’s on sale 25% of this week at EC.

You can read an excerpt here

snippet!

“Are you going to hate me forever for what happened that night?” he asked roughly, his hands curled into loose fists to keep from reaching for her.

Allie blinked. Once, slowly, like a sleepy little cat, he thought. She reached up and ran a hand through her tangled wet hair, an action that lifted her short robe even higher. Her body was still damp and when the robe rode higher, it clung and gaped, hinting at the naked body beneath it, revealing the slope of one breast, the edge of a soft, pink nipple. “I don’t hate you, Alex,” she said, shaking her head slightly. “I’m sorry if I’ve given you that impression.”

“I’ve been avoiding your brother for a while, because I didn’t want to risk running into you. I felt like an ass,” he said gruffly, wanting to close the distance between them and kiss her, to see if her mouth was still as soft and sweet as he remembered. “I hurt you, and I’m sorry for it. That was your first time, wasn’t it?”

Her cheeks flushed and her lashes lowered, followed by a soft, quiet sigh. “Yes. Alex, look—”

“Shh,” he murmured, moving a little closer, pressing one finger to her lips.

He knew women well enough to understand what he was seeing in her eyes. Embarrassment and self-doubt—that was something he hadn’t thought of until it was too late, and he should have, especially with Allie. He decided to risk closing that distance and he backed her up against the wall as he told her, “Do you know I dreamed of that night for weeks? Months?”

Some stuff I learned at the WRWDC Retreat

Kindle

(I’m also including the signing at Turn the Page bookstore).

Turn the Page

  • People travel from Ireland and England to meet Nora Roberts. Like Sarah from Smart Bitches said… Nora is her own travel destination.
  • It’s okay to raid your mom’s jewelry stash for booksignings… cuz I did.  And Nora Roberts Liked My Necklace. It’s mine now.  Not Mom’s.  I called her and told her I could never return it, it’s like my good luck thing.  She understood.  (She laughed, but she understood and gave it to me.)
  • Antietam …I gotta go back.

Antietam

  • People define success in an odd way.  I’m going to reevaluate how I look at it myself. More on that later.
  • The WRWDC folks really know how to twist up the game Jeopardy. And that’s all I’m going to say about that…except…. THIS GAME IS NOT FAIR.
  • There’s still a very heavy emphasis on the things an author must do.  It’s odd that a lot of people don’t talk about the one thing I think is crucial. More on that later.
  • I’m definitely going back to the WRW retreat.
  • I’m going to consider how a surfer might look at things.  More on that later.
  • I met too many cool people to mention, but I did get to spend some time with chatting with Mary Burton, Jane Porter, Dorien Kelly, Darynda Jones and there was an epic, awesome road trip with Sarah Wendell from Smart Bitches.
  • Also…most important, if you call your husband on a Thursday and the youngest tells you that she has a surprise for you and your gut tells you that the surprise barks…

My surprise, waiting for me when I got home

Listen to your gut

I’m not glommable… answering/responding to a reader Q

Kindle

dreamstimefree_8571973

Totally swiping that phrase from KatiD/Dear Author

I have a confession to make and I hate to do it because I want to be glommable.  I want readers to want to buy every single thing I’ve written and to stalk my website looking for the next.

But I’m not glommable.  The thing with being glommable is that the books offer a similar ‘experience’ from one to the next.

It’s hard to do that when I vary so widely on what I write.

Paraphrasing here on a comment from a reader…

I really enjoyed XXXXX.  I hated the YYYYY and I’d like you to focus more on writing just this sort of thing.  If these do well, can’t you do that?

(ETA… I removed the titles, because this really isn’t just a book specific thing.  I get this a lot.  I can’t shut off how my brain functions and the books come from the brain.)

Well.  No.

For a number of reasons.

  • I’d get bored.  Seriously.  And if I’m bored, that’s not going to result in a good experience for you.
  • lot of readers loved the Ash books.  Yes, they were dark and creepy and there was a psycho killer running amok…some people enjoy that sort of thing.  I enjoy that sort of thing, which is why I decided to write it.
  • I write fast.  My publishers know this and they work with me to keep my options open.  My newest publisher St. Martins is focusing on small-town sort of romantic suspense, similar (sort of) to the Ash books.  Berkley might be interested in more books like Wrecked but that all depends on how well Wrecked does.  They have the FBI Psychics, but contract issues also come into play here and I have to keep that into mind.

Bottom line, though…I’m going to write the stories that a) appeal to me the most and b) that I feel are going to sell well.  I have to focus on these two things because if the story doesn’t appeal to me, I’ll be bored and that doesn’t result in a good book for anybody.  Readers don’t want to be bored, but if the writer is bored, I can guarantee the reader will be bored.

I have to keep in mind whether or not the book is going to sell well because writing is my job.  It’s my only job.  If I write 2-3 books and they all flop, I may not be able to sell that next one.

For those who liked Wrecked, you might like some the contemporaries I’ve had at out at Samhain, EC or the ones I’ve selfpublished (Beg Me, Tempt Me ~be warned…Beg Me is dirty).  You can check out the genre page.

Some of the books I write totally do have the glom factor because you’ll find the same ‘experience’ with each… it’s just a matter of what appeals.

  • The Grimm books (think Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets fairy tales plus crazy sauce)
  • The FBi Psychics (romantic suspense with a paranormal slant)
  • My Hunter books (vampires! werewolves! oh, my!)….
  • the J.C. Daniels books (yeah, there are only two, but more are coming.)
  • And there are like 14-15 straight contemporary titles here

but my attention span is about as short as… squirrel…and I love changing it up. The good news is… there really is something for just about everybody.  The bad news… I dunno if I’ll ever be one of the Must Glom authors.

One more reminder…order some signed books

Kindle

I head out tomorrow.  Today, I’m going to be running around like a lunatic, making sure I haven’t forgotten anything, and of course, I’ll forget something.

Turn The page

But don’t you forget… :)  you can order signed books from me while I’m at TURN THE PAGE on Friday.  Order something!  Make me look important!  They have WRECKED and THE REUNITED listed, but they do have a few other titles on hand, so if you don’t want those two books, just shoot them an email or give them a call and see if they have another title you might like.  They will totally mail books, so you can order even if you’re in Antarctica   Do I have readers there?  Man.  That would be cool.

Anyway…there ya go.  One more reminder.

If you’d like to come, you can… there’s going to be a bunch of writers, including Nora Roberts.

Check out the signing protocol, though.

Some info I got from TTP:

  • Free tickets will be given out to fans beginning at 10 am and ending at 2 pm.
  • All books signed must be purchased at TTP.
  • Signed books may be ordered online for signature up until 9 am on Friday.

Okay. I think that’s it.  I need to go back to spazzing about whatever in the world it is I’ve forgotten.
