Snippets! Sexy Little Surprises

Kindle

From my other half...well, percentage. (For Qs about JC, visit the FAQ page on either website.)

This comes out next Friday.

“I need to stir the food or we’ll be eating burnt curry.”

“Don’t care,” he whispered against her hair.

“I do. Cuz it will be a pain in the ass to clean up the dishes.” She wiggled and pressed against him, easing off the counter.

“Okay, okay.” He sighed and swatted her on the ass. “That was probably the best five minutes I’ve had in…forever. Just so you know. Sorry it was only five minutes, though.”

She grabbed a spoon and working it under the chicken, grimacing as some of it stuck. It wasn’t too bad, though. Dinner could be saved. Over her shoulder, she said, “I’m not…we can just go again after dinner.”

“Good.” He tangled a hand in her hair, tugged her head back. “Or maybe we can go ahead now and just eat it cold.”

A few breathless moments later, she pulled away from him and tugged at his hands. “Can’t. I went without lunch.” She checked the time and said, “It should only be twenty minutes. Then you can have your way with me.”

“Fine…” he groaned and rested his head on her shoulder for a second before moving away.

He lingered long enough to adjust her panties and tug her skirt down and she shivered at the feel of his hands on her thighs. She’d so very much missed having him touch her. She closed her eyes and swallowed around the ache in her throat. She’d missed a lot of things. Having him in here while she cooked dinner. Having him with her. Talking to her.

So many things.

“Maybe you can pour us some wine,” she said quietly. “And then you can give me whatever is in that bag over there.”

“Okay.”

She licked her lips and then added, “I’m afraid I drank part of your anniversary present last night. I bought you some wine but figured I’d enjoy it with Melissa.”

He laughed a little. “I guess that serves me right. What was the other part?”

“Well…the other part, I’ll show you some other day.” * * * * *

Five minutes of hot, brain-blowing sex did not a healed marriage make. As he stood in the bathroom, staring at his haggard reflection, he reminded himself of that.

They had to talk.

They had to fix this marriage.

But first…hell, would it kill them to take a night and just be together? He’d missed that. So much. When had they drifted apart like this? When had he let it happen?

Enter to read/review a galley of my UF

Kindle

Kit Colbana—half breed, assassin, thief, jack of all trades—has a new job: track down the missing ward of one of the local alpha shapeshifters. It should be a piece of cake.

So why is she so nervous? It probably has something to do with the insanity that happens when you deal with shifters—especially sexy ones who come bearing promises of easy jobs and easier money.

Or maybe it’s all the other missing kids that Kit discovers while working the case, or the way her gut keeps screaming she’s gotten in over her head. Or maybe it’s because if she fails—she’s dead.

If she can stay just one step ahead, she should be okay. Maybe she’ll even live long to collect her fee…

Read an excerpt

so…my UF thing is ALMOST ready for me to figure out what in the hell I’m doing with it.

Yes.  I don’t know yet.  I might be self-publishing it.  I might be doing this.  I might be doing that. In all likelihood, I’m self-publishing it. UTA: Decision made… the title will be out 8/1 (tentative date)

But in the meantime, I need some reviews and people who will post about it on goodreads and just in general help spread the word.  So here we go.

Please stet the f*ck

Kindle

I’m still stuck on edits this week.  Brain will be dead for a few more days and probably my blog, too.

A funny from my edits… when you want something to be left alone, you mark “STET”

There’s one place where they marked out “fuck”

I made a comment… “Please stet the Fuck”

Interesting blog tour going on this week, and timely, IMO, after the ‘what the hell’ crap on ‘plagriarism’ last week…. I’m not familiar with the blog STACKED, but maybe I should be…they are doing an ‘unconventional blog tour‘ where they talk about things like independence and integrity in blogging… citing your sources… cool stuff.  That hard stuff to talk about that a lot of people need to know, but it’s not always wisely discussed.

If you’re a blogger, check it out.  I think it will be a nice, balanced approach to things.

In baby bratlet news…

She’s going to be an adrenaline junky.

I got dragged onto this… this sucker is up WAY HIGH in the air.

She giggled the whole time. (my pic…I took it)

STALKING THE OTHERS BLOG TOUR

Stop 2: Shia’s Not Happy

By Jess Haines

Hello there!  Jess Haines here.  I’m the author of the urban fantasy H&W Investigations series HUNTED BY THE OTHERS, TAKEN BY THE OTHERSDECEIVED BY THE OTHERS and the upcoming STALKING THE OTHERS.

Shiarra has been having a pretty bad time of things lately. She’s here with some of her friends (and otherwise) to tell you about it.  Over to you, Shia!

____________________

Sara: You’ve got a little… uh… eye twitch thing going on over there.  You okay?

Shiarra:  No.

Royce:  She’s been having a stressful month. Perhaps now is not the best time—

Shiarra:  Untie me.

Chaz:  We can’t do that.  You’re being unreasonable, hon—

Shiarra: (*CENSORED*)

Arnold:  Wow.  I didn’t even know those words were in your vocabulary.

Shiarra:  (*CENSORED*)

Chaz: Babe—

Shiarra:  (*CENSORED*)

Chaz:  Honey—

Shiarra:  (*CENSORED*)

Sara:  I feel like I’m on the Jerry Springer show.

Chaz:  You aren’t helping.

Royce:  I’d probably find this immensely entertaining if I had some ear plugs.

Arnold:  I can conjure up some popcorn.

Shiarra:  Screw you guys. Let me out of here!

Royce:  Perhaps if you calmed yourself, Ms. Waynest, we wouldn’t find these measures necessary.

Sara:  I don’t really like the vamp, but he’s got a point.  You can’t really go around murdering and pillaging across the land.  That went out of style with the Vikings.

Arnold:  Pillaging never goes out of style.

Chaz:  What the hell are you talking about?

Royce:  I believe they’re trying to calm the lady down. Perhaps you should take a step back before you worsen matters further, dog.

Chaz:  She’s my girl.

Shiarra:  Like hell!

Royce:  Seems the lady would beg to differ.

Shiarra:  I’m not yours, either, fang-boy.  I don’t belong to anybody, and as soon as I get out of here, I’m going to destroy you both.

Royce:  While I do find the idea of the attempt amusing, I don’t want to see you injure yourself. Let the authorities deal with the mutt.

Chaz:  Shut up, worm-bait.

Arnold:  Not that I think Chaz is in the right here, but she doesn’t seem too happy with you, either.

Royce:  Yes, I’m aware of that.

Sara:  So?  Doesn’t bother you?

Royce:  Why should it?  I have an eternity to change her mind.

Shiarra:  Yeah, and my eternal answer is no.  Always and forever, no.

Royce:  Don’t be too sure of that, Ms. Waynest.

Arnold:  If you added “I have my ways” into this conversation somehow, the scary vampire image cliché would be complete.

Sara:  Oh!  Oh!  And a little “I vant to suck your blo-o-o-o-d,” too!

Shiarra:  …you… really aren’t helping, Sara.

Sara:  Sorry, but I’m pulling the best friend privileges card on this one.

Shiarra:  Damn it, stop making me miss you.  I can’t think straight when I’m hunting if I’m stuck worrying about you, too.

Sara:  Sucks to be you. Stop the crazy train and come back.

Royce:  Yes, Ms. Waynest.  Come back to us.  You know it won’t be so terrible to return to me.  I can help you.

Chaz:  Oh, hell no.  She’s not going back to you.

Shiarra:  (*CENSORED*) you both! I make my own decisions now.  Right now, my plans definitely do not include either of you, other than showing you the pointy end of a stake.

Arnold:  Since when did you turn into the Chosen One?

Shiarra:  …what?

Arnold:  You know.  The Slayer.  Buffy.  Must stake all evil, soulless vampires.  That sort of thing.

Shiarra:  I’m not even going to dignify that with an answer.

Sara:  What about me?  You left me in the lurch. Parked alone with the vampire, no less.

Shiarra:  I’m really sorry. I’ll explain it to you when we have a moment alone.

Royce:  Oh, I don’t think so.  I’m quite interested in hearing your explanation for your behavior as well.

Shiarra:  Bite me.

Arnold:  Very poor choice of words, there.

Shiarra:  …err.

Chaz:  I won’t let him touch you.

Shiarra:  You know what?  No.  I won’t let him touch me.

Chaz: Ha!

Shiarra:  And neither will you.  Never again.

Chaz:  …(*CENSORED*)

Saturday Snippets…author’s choice!

Kindle

From Blade Song… since I’m closer to being ready to…well.  Stuff.  No release date or anything, although I’m pushing for this summer. Not sure of formats, etc yet either.  Those are the details I’m still hammering out.

Today’s saturday snippet… author’s choice!

“What’s your range on calling it?” He stood up, still eying the sword. “Are there other weapons or is it just that one?”

As he took a step closer, I lifted her. “Please stay away.”

“I thought we had a truce,” he murmured. A smile tugged at his lips.

If I didn’t know what a bastard he was, I might have almost believed the smile. “Doesn’t mean I want you getting close to me.”

He eyed the sword, then me. “You can’t really hold it like that forever. I can just stand here until you lower it. All I want to do is talk, Kit.”

“I can hold it a lot longer than you might think.” Memories of drills danced through my mind. Fanis had broken the bones in my forearm when I was twelve because my guard got shaky. When the same thing happened at fourteen with a heavier weapon—a battle-axe—she’d broken my right humerus and my collarbone. I knew how to hold my guard, and despite what he thought, I was stronger than humans.

“So you’re going to stand there and have a pissing contest over nothing rather than an answer to a question?” His smile widened and his gaze dropped, staring at my tits as though the close-fitting tank top wasn’t even there. “Okay. I’ll just enjoy the view.”

Hissing, I lowered the blade and spun away.

Spying a T-shirt thrown over a nearby chair, I grabbed it and stalked over to my bed. Once more, I kept it between us as I put the blade down. “Take it again, and I’ll just call it back,” I said flatly, jerking the T-shirt on over my head.

I didn’t even have time to gasp for a breath.

He was right there.

A hand on my neck held me in place. Swearing, I flexed my wrist. “Go ahead,” he said, his voice gruff. “I’m not…”

I tensed as I felt his hand catch the hem of the shirt I’d pulled on.

“What in the holy hell happened to your back?”

I clenched one hand into a fist. Closing my eyes, I just stood there.

Seconds ticked away, bled into minutes.

He didn’t ask again.

Finally, he let go.

I didn’t open my eyes again until I heard the door close behind him.

I didn’t move for a good ten minutes. I wasn’t sure if I could. If I moved, I just might shatter.

Sexy Little Surprises.. my first book…sorta…

Kindle

Under my new name, that is.  If you missed my post, I’m going to be writing my shorter contemporaries and urban fantasy under the name J.C. Daniels.

No, they aren’t any other pen names.  Yes, it was kind of necessary.  The J.C. Daniels site is here…and for the curious, it’s just a play of the names of some people very important to me.

Excerpt!

Alexis wondered if he knew what to make of the book.

She sort of doubted it.

He hadn’t even realized the card’s quote had been from Ovid, a classical poet who Alexis had very much adored.

Ah, hapless me, Love’s arrow did but all too surely find its mark. On fire am I, and Love, and none but Love now rules my heart that ne’er was slave till now.

It had almost made her tear up that year when he’d given her an old-fashioned valentine with a quote from one of the world’s classic poet’s.

Sighing, she stood at the stove and stared at the clock.

It was almost six.

She didn’t know why she was bothering with dinner.

It wasn’t like he’d be home before seven or eight.

But—

Front door, the alarm system chimed. Disarm system now.

Startled, she glanced up and moved away from the stove, drying her hands off on one of the towels.

When she saw him there, striding down the hall toward her, it almost hit her like a fist.

Swallowing, she turned back to the stove.

A minute, damn it.

She needed a minute.

Her hands shouldn’t be shaking like this.

So… some sorta bad news about Beautiful Scars

Kindle

I’d initially posted this title was going to be coming out soon from Forever Romance/Grand Central, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Sometimes, when it comes down to contracts, you can’t quite get the odds and ends to line up.

That’s basically where we are at. The stars just aren’t aligning up for both sides the way we need them to, so we’re going going to have to have to just let it go.

I do plan on getting the book out for readers and when I have an idea on just how that will work out, I’ll let you know.
