And the solution is….a nap!

Yesterday I was feeling too bleh to mess with the normal TT. Woke up Thursday feeling equally bleh and figured I wouldn’t get much done. I was tired, my brain couldn’t focus.

Still, I sat down with my laptop and got to work. Managed a whopping 816 words. 😐 Considering the story I’m working on is contracted, and it’s due 2/1 and needs to be oh…. say… 90k, I wasn’t much impressed with the 816. Granted, the book is already at the half way point, but I’m obsessive. Until it’s done, I’m not happy with writing less than a thousand words a day. 2-3K, though? I’m good with that.

Didn’t seem to want to come today, though.

I was too tired to focus and my brain was running up against a roadblock. So I did what any author should do… I took a nap. Seriously-and it worked. I just added about 1200 words to the secondary work in progress (WIP) and 3400 to the main work. More, I also figured out why I am butting up against the plot roadblock and I think I’ve found a way around it.

Naps work wonders. 😉

The current WIP is titled Share and Share Alike, although I dunno if I’ll stick with that title. I’ve also been terribly lazy about the Friday snippets deal… a fantastic idea, but I can’t ever seem to get motivated away from the deadlines to remember to do it. I remembered today!

So below is an excerpt from Share and Share Alike~a romantic suspense contracted with Berkley, unfinished, unedited…it’s not due to release until ’09 so I’ve got time to clean it up.

Ellie was a heartbreaker, that was sure. Rina Manning got her heart broken on a regular basis, but Ellie was going to a memorable one. Right then, Ellie lay on the bed, curled into a tight ball and sleeping like she hadn’t slept in a week.
Easing up from the hard stool by the bed, Rina watched Ellie’s face for a minute to make sure she wouldn’t wake and then she started to pace the small confines of the exam room.

Small, scared and scarred, Ellie was a sad little thing but it wasn’t too late for her. She was only four years old and half of her life had been spent in the care of foster parents. Foster parents that loved her. One set of foster parents really stood out in Rina’s mind and if she had anything to do with it, Ellie was going to go back to those people.

Hell, Ellie shouldn’t have ever been removed from them. Rina knew the courts had good intentions, but the road to hell and all that. Putting that child back with her drug dealer mama who had no desire to stay sober, it all translated to one thing. A BFM.

Big fucking mistake.

Unfortunately she saw a lot of them in her line of work. This one, though, it was going to end all right. She’d damn well see to it. Poor Ellie wouldn’t realize it now, and she may never realize it, but her mother dying was the best thing to ever happen to her.

“Will she be okay?”

Rina turned and looked at the doctor. He stood at the doorway, staring at Ellie with grim eyes.

Now there was another heart breaker. Sexy and absolutely mouth watering. Dr. Devlin Rafferty hadn’t shaved in a couple of days and his clothes were so damned rumpled, she figured he’d been sleeping in them. Heavy lidded gray eyes, lines carved into the harsh features of his face, and a long, rangy build, he looked more like a warrior than a doctor.
