a book meme

Kindle

from Rosie.  She didn’t tag me, but I do like memes soooooo

1. Total number of books I own:

I don’t know if I can count that high.  ebooks alone are in the high hundreds.  print books, well over.  into the 2000 range, maybe?  Not really sure, and nope, I’m not counting.

2. Last book I bought:

Tinker by Wen Spencer.  I’ve heard alot of this book and finally found a copy at Borders and flipped thru.  Looks good.

3. Last book I read:

Seize the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon

4. Five books that mean a lot to me:

hmmmm…. Little House in the Big Woods, it was one of the first books I actually remember reading.  In like…3rd grade, I guess.

Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts.  I think this was the first book of hers that I read and it got me seriously addicted.

Stardoc by SL Viehl.  Finding somebody that could combine my two loves, sci fi and romance.  Swoon.  These are my comfort reads.  The entire Stardoc series.

My Bible.  I still have the one my dad gave me when I was probably 12 or so.  I didn’t take very good care of it at the time, and now I regret that.  Still, tattered and whatnot, means a lot to me, both because of the Book itself and that my dad gave it to me.

my ARC of Dark Need by Lynn Viehl aka SL Viehl (is there a theme there…)  I won this from her blog and it was signed to me.  *G*  Fave author sends me book, signs it to me, naturally that’s going to mean lots and lots.

Okay, so this is a meme and I’m supposed to tag people, but like Rosie, I don’t feel like tagging.  So if you feel like doing it, go ahead and drop a line in comments.  I’ll try to remember to add your link into the post here.

Don't try so hard

Kindle

I’ve got a pet peeve.

I love good erotic romance.  Love them.   But it has to be good. Good, for me, means the story has a plot.  The story has likeable characters. The story has a happy ending, or at least the promise of one.

And for crying out loud, 2/3s of the book doesn’t need to revolve around sex.  it doesn’t have to revolve around how much the heroine just can’t take her eyes on his scrumptios butt, or the hero constantly walking around readjusting his penis because just seeing the heroine makes him erupt with passion.

I’m sorry, but if the hero spends that much time worrying about his hard on then there is a problem with the story.  Either there IS no story~just sex, sex and sex–or the hero’s brain literally is in his pants.

There has to be more than the sex.  I don’t care if a story opens with a love scene and I don’t care if there’s sex every chapter.  Provided there is a story to go along with it.  A workable, likeable story.

The market is brimming with erotic romance right now and there is some very good stuff out there.  But there’s also a lot of books written…hmmmm… how to say this nicely.  Okay, flat out. It seems like a lot of them were written without the author actually putting much thought into the plot and only thinking that… Hey, now’s a good time to try an erotic romance since they are selling…

More and more what I’m finding mechanical, sex the plots are recycled without really trying to put a new twist on the same old same old…and worse, many of the books I’ve picked up by authors that are new to me, they seem to be replacing sex for plot.  Sex for love.

Sorry.  There’s got to be all three.  Sex, plot AND love for a good erotic romance.

Dear Mr/Mrs Spammer

Kindle

Dear Mr/Mrs Spammer.

Now I realize this it is BOTs doing this crap and that it’s unlikely you’ll ever read the following rant.

But it makes me feel better to do it.

WordPress has a wonder spam feature.  Really it does.  It lets me hold anything with more than one link.  I have it set so that anything with more than two links is automatically spammed.  The other stuff, I moderate.

And I assure you.  I’m not a fool.  When I see this post:

Wow.  Your guest books is very good.  Many thanks

I know this is spam.  Even the ones that only come with 1 or 2 links, even the one link with your website on it.  Naturally, the ones with FIFTY links, any idiot can see this is spam.

But when all you comment is wow, your guest book…. sweetie.  This isn’t a guestbook.  It’s a blog.  Big difference.  When you comment, I have saved you in my favorites and will be back, I know this is also spam.

Posts like yours are a pain in the tail, but fortunately, wordpress blocks these and the only time I have to see them is when I go empty out all the spam. Will it matter to you if I tell you that you’re wasting your time?  Most blogs have spam filters and the vast majority of these stupid posts are never seen in the light of day.  No.  It probably won’t matter.

But, man…what I wouldn’t give to be able to access your email box and hit with …oh, say 2000 pieces of junk mail a day for the next month.  Junk mail that your spam filter couldn’t catch.

Go away and leave my blog alone.

Okay!  I feel better now.

Is Grace Going to Die?

Kindle

saving-grace.jpg

picture found via tv.com

Before I start my ramble, I got say a big ttttthhhhppppptttttt to TNT and the people in charge of their website.  They have next to no decent publicity stills and the few that I can find, you can’t save a decent sized image to post on your blog.  I mean, they DO want people to talk about the show, right?  Sheesh.

Okay, onto the show.  Who all is watching it?  I do like it, although I don’t really like Grace.  I’m not sure we’re supposed to.  She’s a bit of a tramp, unapologetic about it and she definitely living the hard life.  I do like Earl.  I like some of Grace’s friends.  And if she sleeps with Stillwater, I’m going to get ticked off.  Some guy on this show, besides Earl, needs to show some restraint.

I do like the person I suspect Grace could be if she hadn’t let her past screw her up.  And I do think she has control over that.  A lot of people have had lousy childhoods and a lot of people have suffered serious loss and heartbreak without turning into a drunk that lays everything with the right equipment.  I like the promise she holds, the person that Earl seems to feel she could be.

And I really like Earl.  Did I mention that part?

I had a speculation when I was watching Saving Grace last week.  I’m wondering if the series won’t end with Grace dying.  I could see this being a short series, purposefully, maybe only planned to run a few seasons and the ending will come when Grace dies.

Why do I think this? I could be wrong.  She’s definitely on a fast track to an ugly end, and I mean the ultimate of all ends.  So maybe Earl, her angel, is there to pull her out of this downward spiral.

So far though, it seems Earl likes to show his face to those who are already one foot in the grave.  A convicted murderer on death row, an aunt of Grace that has been told she has less than two months to live.  So is Grace dancing with death and doesn’t even realize it?

Only time will tell, but it’s an interesting thought.

Poor baby

Kindle

When I logged into wordpress today, this was one of the links of the dashboard.

7 Year old Afghan Girl Raped

The story was picked up by several new sites, including yahoo.  It’s the same article, word for word, that was on the above blog.  Detailing how two men, 18 and 24, raped a child. How their 15 year old sister lured the child to them.

The men were arrested–and released.  The girl’s family had to flee their home because they dared to seek justice for what was done to their daughter.

It makes me sick.  What kind of monster could rape a child?  She’s hardly more than a baby.  But I can’t decide what bothers me more.  That these men raped her, or that the girl and her family may never see justice.  I do believe they will meet divine justice over what they did but still, this hurts.

However this girl has a blessing that others like her don’t have~ she has a family that values her, that loves her more than centuries of traditions.  In that part of the world, virginity is prized and most rapes go unreported because they do not want the world to know their daughter was ‘shamed’.  This family took a risk, tried to get justice and refused to back down.  They also got the child help.  Hopefully, with that kind of love and the support from the councilor, the girl can get past this.

Pisses me off, though.  The shame lays on the shoulders of the men who did it, and their family for not having the strength and courage to make these men own up to what they did and pay for it.

PICA… it's called PICA

Kindle

*G*

Just checking out my blog stats the other day and found this

the word for eating weird things while p

I’m going to assume the P was actually pregnant and just got cut off my wordpress’s word limit on blog hits.

It’s called pica and this is actually one of the things I remember from nursing school.  Not experience, thank God.  Weirdest cravings I had were some serious yearnings for homegrown tomatoes in January, which bites, and hashbrowns.

But some women crave dirt or burnt matches. Odd, huh?

Beautiful Girl

Kindle

woo-hoo!

Done…done…done!

Just finished up the very last word on Beautiful Girl, a contemp romance that I’ve got contracted with Samhain Publishing, due to release sometime in January, I believe. What’s really cool is that this is the…hmmmmm….third (well technically 4th) book I’ve worked on during the infamous 70 days of sweat challenge.  It’s almost 50K, one was right at 30k, one was 35k, and then there’s this short story that I haven’t told anybody about because I’m still waiting to see what is going to happen with it.  AND I’m almost done with The Missing. Well past half way on that one, I think.  It’s at 65K, I think, and I’m aiming between 90-100k, although it could go over.

Beautifil Girl is contemp, no paranormal, just straight contemp.  A touch of suspense, but the focus of the story is on the hero and the heroine.  It’s really the heroine’s story, though.  Del went thru hell and now she’s trying to find her way back and that’s what this story is about.

Here’s a sneak peek, a very brief peek–I’m going to go have a glass of wine in celebration.

Coming home was both heaven and hell.  Delilah Prescott pulled her beat up Corolla off the two lane highway, right in of the welcome sign.  Welcome to Prescott, TennesseeSmall Town, Big Heart.  Located in the mostly rural county of Pike near the Tennessee/Kentucky border, the small town’s main claim to fame was that Daniel Boone had spent some time in the general area.

It was a nice little town, though. Just about everybody knew the other and even strangers were made to feel welcome.  Lots of strangers, especially on weekends and in the summer.  Lake Cumberland was a popular vacation spot during the hot months of July and August and Prescott had become something of an antique mecca. Small shops lined Main Street and from what she could tell, some of the retail prosperity had spread out past that area. She saw what looked like a for real steakhouse.  Not just the diner or Lula’s Café.  A real restaurant, complete with neon sign.

She wondered what else had changed in the past twelve years.  Besides her, of course.“God.”  Del closed her eyes and prayed she had the strength to do this.  Divine intervention was the only thing that had given her the strength to come down here and judging from the watery state of her knees, she was going to need a lot more divine help to keep from jumping back in the car and leaving as fast as she could.

She couldn’t keep running.  She was tired of it.
